Take it easy

David

I remember going into Twibells yard in the late 60s,with "smalls"for onward delivery in the Manchester/liverpool area, always made welcome ,with a nice “Brew”!..chris

Hi GAZ70, No need for the capslock mate, cos we can hear you!! (Capslock counts as shouting  )

I did quite a bit of work for Twibell’s on night agency work.

I never went to their HQ at Mobberley, but I used to do short shunt runs on nights between Procter & Gamble’s and Twibell’s little yard near the diner on Trafford Park and deliveries of Proctor and Gamble loads to the Safeway RDC at Warrington.

It was nice easy work and red ERF’s (and red trailers) as already mentioned. The ERF’s were the older type on a B or C plate IIRC.
There are only two guys that I can remember from that job. One was the night-shift supervisor (Gary??) and one of the drivers who (IIRC) was called Chris.
The “Chris” that I have in mind had something to do with karate (or another martial art) in his spare time and taught it to children.

I’ve no pics I’m afraid. :frowning:

I hope my little info helps.

sorry about the shouting dieseldave, thats twice i’ve been told about it ,thanks for the info pal.

yes .,I remember Twibells ,when i first started work in Transport in the late 1960,s .
Claytons Transport of Leicester The company I worked at the time for used to load their vehicles back from Leicester with cases/cartons /bales etc mainly to Manchester docks but also Liverpool and Birkenhead docks, along with Hunt Brothers of Culcheth nr warrington vehicles are they still around? -this business was owned partly by Roger Hunt ,s
father and his brother (roger played for Liverpool F C -oh how i bet they wish he played for them now!)

Hunts has moved to Earlstown near to Newton-Le-Willows, I lived in the village of Culcheth and there yard was right in the middle Rogers brother was Peter who spent most of his time in the business Roger didn,t do a lot in the company. Just as a side note i use to deliver papers in the mornings as a kid (67-69) and remember delivery to Rogers house and see the world cup in the front room at 13 i thougth it was the real one

Here are a few of those Dodges. A couple of old ones first, Twibells then bought some new 300 series,tw of which i photgraphed when brand new, enjoy.

carl is the last picture taken in knutsford on northwich road

Did Twibells ever go over the water later on, it would’ve been about the time when Twibells started getting the Actrosses . The reason i ask is that when i used to work for Widdowsons of leicester, we used to do bits for them and they used to bits for us. So sometimes i’d leave the yard with a Twibells trailer loaded for north, tip it, run in to trafford park and swap trailers with one of our own loaded for south. And there was a rumour going round our place that one of our drivers saw a Twibells coming off the boat at Dover with one of our trailers on…?

Hi gazzo yes the photo was taken on northwich rd.

carl did you know any of twibell’s drivers

great pics them carl thanks for sharing first time ive seen any of there dodges remember them y regs im sure they were bought off the docks think they were a cancelled order

carl,i have just been told that the dodge parked on northwich road ,knutsford was driven by the late jock tate,he lived on the estate just off the main road.when he ran in ,he always stopped at home for a brew ,before getting back to the yard at mobberley.
