dustylfc:
my question is if your parked up and gonna either take a break or have daily rest do vosa have any power or right to do a check, reason am asking my m8 was down bristol way and vosa set up a check point right opposite him, he got out his cab with his shower kit and was stopped and asked how long he was gonna be, needless to say his shower lasted till 3am, until they had gone, but if it was a daily rest could you tell them so and just carry on with your business?
I think this came up before and I think the answer was that unless there is some sort of emergency then a driver cannot be forced to abandon a break or rest period.
As for as I know… there is nothing to stop a VOSA or plod from having a nosey around the truck providing that the driver is not disturbed in any way if they are on break/rest
My dad (Who does trunk work) Got stopped 3 times in 1 week by same group of vosa. He asked the kind lady who was going through his tacho “Why do you always stop me, I saw you lot yesterday and monday?” she replied “Well we know you lot are running legal so it isnt much hassle”
When I worked for Ceva we were sent (from Head Office) a sheet similar to the one above which we were to show to anyone trying to access our vehicle at night even if they were wearing a uniform, stating that we would not open the doors but would follow them to a Police station.
rog, if you are away from or asleep in your truck vosa/police can look and nosey around your truck. as long as they do not disturb you.
if i am parked up for the night with an empty box on, i see them regular checking trucks at 2.30-3.30 am.
when i put on the cab light and open the curtains they look at me and walk over for a chat.
they are in colsterworth every night doing the same thing.
This resurrected thread reminds me of the sneaky tactics of the Zollamt and BAG in Waidhaus.
While you were up the steps doing your carnet, they wandered round with chalk marking out defects and slack tyres, then when you got the all clear they appeared and refused to give you your passport back until they had been paid

If your that bothered raise a complaint against the collar number, it will be investigated thoroughly and answered as it would be seen to be a waste of scarce resources, or maybe it just makes a makes a change from the regular ‘Because you have a marker against you/your fleet for poor maintenence, tacho offences’ etc so you deserve a pulling to make sure you have got your act together now
I know someone pulled 3 miles after his MOT, i suppose if he didn’t have a ‘dodgy record’ against his plates it wouldn’t of happened
It’s all right for plod to get all hot and bothered when you won’t open the door after they stop you in a stupid or secluded place, but just maybe you would take the dimwits more seriously if they stopped selling old police cars with all the markings and lights left on!
Two garages around me have bought them to stand on the forecourt to reduce drive-offs, but if they can buy cars like this, so can anyone.
Actually, driving off without paying isn’t a crime in Staffordshire according to their police anyway…
