Highwayman, watch this space. If someone told you three years ago that we would be pulling incident screens, what would you have said. Or clearing 44t trucks from live lane? My source told me that we have to be seen to be better value for money, and at the moment, are we value for money?? I don’t think so!!

They’ve re-opened that one in the middle of nowhere on the m74 in to Scotland as well. Bit weird they have a sign out saying “trucks to go in to checkpoint” or some such, I thought sod that I ain’t pulling in unless theres a smoky in front of me.Presumably if every truck obeyed the wording of the sign, every truck that goes past would have to pull in.
That brings me a question. As I learned last year (the hard way - i got a ticket for doing 72 on A90 ), Sprinters are considered goods vehicle here, so if I see signs saying “goods vehicles enter the checkpoint” should I do it?

Light goods vehicles at 3.5t.

Is that yes or no?

I suggest going in and asking to make sure.

I was pulled at Crick the other day, a year to the day since my last pull. I saw the VOSA vehicle on the slip road of the Watford Gap services, and just knew it would pull me. Sure enough, he pulls alongside in lane 2, and the passenger smiles at me and indicates ‘follow me’.
I think that at Watford Gap the VOSA car will be inputting your vehicle registration into their computer. They’ll be doing this while they are still stationary. If your vehicle flags up as having an interesting history then the car gets moving off the hard shoulder on the entry slip road.
They then have to accelerate quite quickly because they need to get ahead of you before the Junction with the M45. (I am sure some of their targeted trucks try to escape down the M45). Once they’ve got ahead of you they then have a couple of miles or so to tell you to follow them off at Junction 18 to their weighbridge lay-by at Crick.
I’m getting used to that now.

Hello, excuse me, I just saw your sign “goods vehicles pull into the checkpoint” and I wanted to ask if I should pull in as well, as I would rather not, since my windscreen is cracked and my boss dont’ want to replace it saying “you’ll be all right” so I hope I don’t need to, but just wanted to be sure…

You mean that one from the camera attached within the scope of windscreen wipers?
