Testing a night. With all the disorganised road closures and ill thought out/ lack of
LGV compatible diversions I think they could be setting themselves up for a fall there.
Confused robot lorries driving continuously around roundabouts. A bit like manned lorries really.
Hope i’m still kicking around to witness the utter balls up that fully automation will bring, can see it now, there at the home for the bewildered that silly old bugger Judd is laughing his socks off at the news showing hundreds of miles of traffic jams, vehicles piled up all around, lorries all ground to a halt, thousands of people stranded, all peering at their satnav altars…why are you laughing the nice young man in his yellow coats asks Mr Judd…he answers i bloody told you so, error 404 everythings shut down and no bugger knows how to or is allowed to drive a lorry any more…
When I was younger, I’d refuse to use a gadget that I didn’t know “how it worked”.
Years on, I DO know how the damned things work - and I still refuse to use a lot of them - Not because they are too complicated or I’m some Luddite, - but because I just object to the way they take over people’s lives.
I have plenty of tech at home - I just don’t take it to work with me, where it can get nicked, and where I really don’t need it.
If I were a politician instead of a trucker - I might relent and “tech up” at work - but I’m not. So I won’t.

I even get to drive a range change manual box in my new job, which in my mind is a step up from all those automatics I’ve been driving whilst on agency.
I can get out of roundabouts cleanly now! - Yippee!
Well just wanted to say a big thanks to all who have dropped their input into this thread,
made me REALLY think about my future path’s, and financial prospects…
So I’ve got my deposit down for C2 training , if and when passed I would like to do the ADR training , then do my CE.
My logic is hopefully get driving, and while Im learning to drive rigids physically, gain an academic qualification to hopefully then broaden my prospects financially so as to achieve CE financially and due to having been learning and driving a truck already I should have a better chance of getting the golden ticket…
Hope that makes sense lol…
So yeah cheers TN’ers fingers crossed in two years time at most I will get too drag a few frosty boxes up an down the country, an enjoy being hummed off too sleep by its cooling motors harmonic tone, in a ■■■■ soaked lay-by at 3am on a Sunday morn
Its a humble goal but stuff it its mine
Good luck when parked for the night in a narrow layby and the boy racers fly by to rock that big cab on some major trunk route. I retire in a few years at which point they can stuff the whole lot where the the sun don’t shine. Try it by all means, you may take to it but do have something you can fall back on. Good Luck.
