Using eco roll on hills?

The 66 plate Actros at work will allow you to chose how much you’d like it to eco roll, either 1, 2 or 3 mph.
It gets turned off at the start of the shift but annoyingly turns itself back on every time the engine is turned off. would like it removing altogether but alas its a no.

It’s a good system, alas it takes brains to use it properly and it’s pretty much meaningless when in full auto mode. You get the best results when you flip it to neutral just before the crest of the hill and taking into account the gradient and the weight of the load, put it back in gear when speeding up on the descent. Then apply the engine brake at around 120km/h

+1, if my new steed has bloody eco roll its getting switched off every time, oh and by the way when did they make coasting (which is what ecoroll does) legal?

I guess it’s because it’s designed into and controlled by the gearbox itself.

I personally find the Eco Roll system and similar to be a pain in the arse however, allowing the truck to run away when I don’t want it to and requiring me to intervene with braking, or allowing the speed of the truck to fall off excessively when I want it to be maintained at maximum (so for example the truck I just overtook doesn’t come cruising past me again, causing us both bother).
