I think you are on to a winner Dimitri. What a cracking idea, take the money and get bottom feeders to do the work. Genius, why has no one thought of that before?!
Why limit yourself to a transport company though?
You get your scam, I mean company up and running. Shouldn’t take long as you won’t need a vehicle anyway.
I will go out quoting for an extension on a few houses. No experience in the field but you know… whatever. While the cheques start rolling in I will sub the job out to any passing band of cowboys who will do it on the cheap.
This time next year Dimmers, we’ll be millionaires! [emoji898]
To everyone here who’s accused me of being a “bottom feeder” or in a “race to the bottom” –
Are you not bottom feeders when you buy fuel? Do you always look for a more expensive fuel station to support the fellow small business owner who owns it? Believe me, they are not making that much money either, all that price you pay at the pump, it’s all taxes, the cost of fuel is actually a very small part of the price you pay. Their profit margin is even lower than in transport. So, are going to stop being a bottom feeder and start paying a higher price for fuel from now on? In exchange, you’ll get a “long term relationship” with the fuel station owner. And “trust”.
When the fuel card people come on and tell me about the savings, I take no notice. I’ve got a Shell card and a Keyfuels card - two because coverage is not always what it should be in some areas and a seperate one for Euroland. If I CBA I could get fuel somewhere cheaper.
The two people who service my vehicles, one a main dealer, one a small business, I have dealt with for decades - could get cheaper, but I value the relationship.
Last time I bought a tractor unit, which was two weeks ago, I knew what I wanted, went to the people I deal with, they gave me a price and that was that, did I faff with going round 25 dealers to shave £500.00 off, did I bu88er.
Drivers, could get them cheaper too, but you know what, we are all tight, they are good lads, they keep turning up every week, so much so, that some of them I’ve seen their kids grow up and have kids of their own. Which makes me feel old. But good.
Can’t think of much else we buy much of. I moved from ATS a while back to somewhere cheaper, but the driver was service - ATS were rubbish at the time.
PS thank you for explaining that the cost of fuel is largely made up of tax, I’m guessing not many of us knew that…
I value long-term relationships over money every day. It is fair to say that I wouldn’t be ripped off, but I’m not going to argue the toss over another £20.00 an hour if I have a relationship that serves me well.

It’s been a VERY long time since I last came across a fuel station that only sold fuel!!!
Nice wee profit to be had in other things they sell IE:
Coffee,
I,'ve been told the “Mark up” on that commodity and it’s STAGGERING!!!
And, I’ve had conversations with subbies where I as them what they want for a job and they say £x and I say, I’ve got a decent rate on that one, have another£x+y.
Welcome to a world where we aren’t trying to screw everyone down to the last penny.

Knock me down with a feather, is it really?! Maybe for your next trick you could tell us that the grass is green and the sky is blue?
The difference between shopping around for the cheapest fuel and your parasitic, economically illiterate scheme is that in fuel, while there is a ‘middle man’ in the form of the retailer, he actually does something to earn his money. In your case you seem to think that it is perfectly ethical to cream off a percentage of what the customer pays for doing next to nothing.
Unlike the petrol retailer, you would not be providing a necessary service. The haulage industry would still function without freight forwarders, and some would say that it would be a lot better off for it.
Dimitri, you have had some wise words. from the very people you are targeting, I worry that you don’t seem to believe your potential client base that your scheme is not wanted or needed… I further worry that your posts are descending in farce and may damage any credibility you may have in any future business venture. I strongly suggest you step away from the keyboard and take a deep breath, because you are doing yourself no favours atm

Well said…and can he be given a DCM .
(Don’t come Monday …for those that don’t know)
Well all this talk of haulage exchanges got the better of me so being a nosey sod i clicked on the 2 week free trial to see what all the fuss is about, my work is paid on a round trip so backloads arent really of any interest to me , anyway onto to what was on offer , the closest load to where i was tipping was a 26ton load of stone slabs from Invergordon to Manchester for the sum of…

£310
Thats 80p a mile give or take , and a full on day including loading / unloading .
I would rather run empty than feed an intermediary company who is stealing all the profit and driving down rates by its practices.
dimitri:
There was no accounts there. Harry has a company but doesn’t appear to use it or has an exemption as a small company. He may file as a sole trader which is not public.

you could get £2 a mile running an old taxi cab during social hours.

I’m convinced he’s hell bent on having the last word.
However I strongly believe there’s an element of trolling going on, and secondly (though I suspect you’ve double checked the IP etc) I believe it’s an alias of another TN member trolling. Finally I suspect Dumitri isn’t too far off from being pre modded or banned

Or maybe you aren’t looking hard enough.
He sure isn’t looking hard enough, I recon anyone taking more than 30 seconds to find such details is taking too long
remember ladies & gent please don’t feed the troll
troll or not its quite funny, now again I may be wrong but page 1 dimmy wanted to start a company buy vehicles and use haulage exchange.
page 4 he has given that up and wants to set up freight forwarder company, page 6 he has been shot down so many times he decides to pretend to be a troll and come back with the fuel argument.
now as an ex OD and agreeing somewhat with albion - we used keyfuels because of the coverage not the price (they were competitive in any case), we used as he does a local company and a main dealer for servicing and repairs etc. again a mix of we knew the blokes and trusted them.
the price thing is irrelevant for these sort of things as most people charge very similar rates, even buying a truck its a matter of a few ££ unless you get like whitehwhitewhite did a deal on a cancelled order or ex demo etc.
I am now out and hope this has helped. best of luck with all the bottom feeder this time next year we will be millionaires schemes, or any that do not involve a race to the bottom.
final thought would be don’t ask a question you don’t want to hear the answer to.

Best of it was the Fella seemed a bit annoyed that i wasnt interested in it
From what I’ve heard on here Dimitri owner drivers are skint only doing the job for free fun volunteer work cuz they love trucks that much. There’s no money in haualage anymore and all the large firms have all the good money and good runs so best go to driver hire or similar where they pay you £13 an hour. Or buy a truck and haul loads for 90p per mile whilst fuel is 1.20 a litre and ur truck does 9mpg. So on short no owner driver wants to tell u where to make money or encourage u to start a business as this would severly impact on there income… best think to do is go to a large form ask of they use Sun contractors and ask how much they pay and wether they would like to use u [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]
