I worked for United Carriers, who bought Ripponden and District as well as Thompson Jewitt and a few others before getting eaten themselves 
Simon is quite correct about multi drops. I could buzz round Hull City centre with 120 drops and 15 collections. If you got any more you were allowed a mate.
On the other hand I used to do 30 drops round North Yorkshire between Boroughbridge and Skipton and struggled to get them off. I used to leave Hawes till Tuesday and Thursday and kept bringing them back
