Rog did it last week and got a ridiculous amount of abuse 'cos peeps didn’t understand the point he was making, and ran with the ‘skyving’ idea. And the OP here gives us a classic case of tiredness while driving, (and does the right thing),and gets told to do what Rog suggested last week…by the same people that criticised Rog!!!
It’s difficult to misunderstand what point was being made in a thread started the evening before Guy Fawkes night that read “Has anyone on here had to cancel work the next day due to fireworks causing them to have too little sleep making them unsafe to drive ?”
You say the OP in this thread “gets told to do what Rog suggested last week”, but where in this thread has anyone suggested that the OP should have stayed home or parked up for the day
What I see is just the opposite, people telling the OP that he shouldn’t be penalised for having the balls and maturity to get the job done in a safe manner.
He wasn’t told to stay at home…'cos he wasn’t AT home. He stopped the truck and slept…which if he’d been at home, would have been the advice Rog gave last week. The cause of the tiredness is irrelevant incidentally. Fireworks or a baby crying or late night. Makes no difference. If you’re tired you need to stop driving and sleep. There are no prizes for being a ‘man’ and killing yourself or someone else.
ROG:
Lack of sleep can cause the headache and no matter what tablets etc you take it will not go away - the cure for that type of headache is … sleep
Oh right, your a doctor now too are you Explains where you get your sicknotes from
Or had experience of these problems.
In the past year at my place I am aware of 1 heart attack, 1 stroke and in the past week 1 temporary blindness all on the road, this from a driving team of about 160. The real irony is those with a history or disposition tend to look out for the signs and act early. Those with no history are often the ones caught out because they just “man up” and carry on.
I understand that stress has been a factor in all of the above, compounding other factors. It should also be remembered that sleep deprivation is used as an interrogation/torture technique because of the bodies difficulty in functioning effectively while sleep deprived.
Just to add when I have felt unwell (nausea)/tired I stopped and told the office on debrief or by phone if carrying stock. Holding the hands up doesn’t seem to be an invitation to further action, rather, an appreciation for being sensible.

Ah, they’ve obviously not learned the lesson that I learned after a few years of running myself ragged trying to meet ever more impossible delivery schedules.
And that lesson is that you do the best you can and thats all you can do cos most of what happens is out of your control. The load gets there when it gets there and as long as you know you’ve not tossed it off in a layby you’ve done all you can.
No, I don’t think Rog is a doctor. However, he clearly knows more about the effects of sleep (or lack of), than most of the peeps do on here.
Really?? I doubt he’s ever worked enough to get tired
The secret to running bent as ■■■■ years ago was always about being fully aware of just that. It’s more about your body being used to it, diet and respecting circadian rhythms
There’s plenty of us on here been there done that and got the t shirt, still fit, well and grafting.

Are you sure about that, or is it possible that he’s just more obsessed with banging on about safety at the slightest opportunity than most people are
