Not sure exactly what happened but it looks like Hi-ab was not stowed. Centre of Doncaster - could cause traffic problems around town later.

And so easily done, just takes a moments distraction only takes someone to start chatting to you and break the routine,I just ignore them until I,m satisfied everything is stowed and fastened away, feel for the bloke though probably lose his job for that, that is if it how it actually happened.
Ironically the footbridge was closed/unused…awaiting safe demolition by contractors!!!

No need to wait now! ![]()
No - one ever fixes the height warning beacon when it breaks…

Surely the driver would strap the grab down on the bed before moving ![]()
I fail to see how that can be an easy mistake to make, leaving something that can move around in a number of directions on the bed of the vehicle without securing it is madness ![]()
That too… bet he was flavour of the month when he got back to the yard…

A visit to hospital was first…injuries not thought to be serious. This story is all over regional news & Facebook etc. Not showing HGV drivers’ in a good light!!!

How come the grab arm doesn’t look that badly damaged but the bridge is totally destroyed ■■?
Ok. Can you all move back?. MOVE BACK PLEASE!!! Nothing to see here.
I`m putting this down to a high object on the vehicles body striking the overhead pedestrian crossing point due to the height from the ground of the said object. Whilst it would be reasonable to assume it to be the lorry mounted crane, it is far too early to speculate further at this time.
There after all have only been 10 posts so far.
Hope he`s alright…

My first thought as we’ll ttx, never driven or used a hiab before,it must be well anchored to the body or was that a really weak bridge??
Few more pictures here.

unfortunately there are two ends to an hiab, one was bolted to the chassis, the other wasn’t anchored at all, that’s why it hit the bridge ![]()
