Im happy enough with nights out but I did have a funny one the first day back after new years. My unit was being resprayed so I went out on a ‘day run’ in a spare unit without checking all my paperwork. Thought I was doing 1 delivery to Queensferry and return to the yard but whilst there I realised I had a collection. So a phone call to the office and that evening I parked the unit outside a Travelodge in the centre of Market Harbour .
There’s a sleeping back and washing kit and basic change of kecks and socks in one of the lockers of my regular motor.
So far so good haven’t needed to use them, hope that continues to be the case.

Any of you daymen/nightmen who…
quote; ''Like their own beds at night ‘’
and who have came on here in the past saying…
‘‘I don’t carry a sleeping bag me, or any kit, as I flatly refuse to have nights out, and expect to be planned accordingly’’ (or words to that effect)
been caught out this week, and wish they had listened to people like me who argued with them on here?To answer your question, no, never done a night out and never will so there you go
PS let it go man, move on
PS let what go exactly ?..man.
Oh Cmon rob, just let it go why don’t you.
Where I last worked we always took our gear with us , the full tramp kit .
Best / worst was a a quick run to a drop 2hrs away . I got home 10 days later .

I have normally been prepared, the one time I remember it going ■■■■ up was a quick run down to Ryton to swap a stand trailer. They had loaded the wrong one and I ended up in Calais. Luckily Tesco sell duvets so I grabbed one in Dover

I don’t take any stuff. If it happened and I was caught out, 9 of ours were stuck on the M62. Bang on the night heater and lay on bunk. Wake up 7 hours later fully rested.sent using smoke signals
Have you ever had a night out in a truck with either no night heater, or a night heater that suddenlly stops warming up?
Not good mate, especially in winter.Well if you would be stranded on a motorway and be so unlucky to have no night heater or one that had stopped working, surely you would be able to go to one of the other lorries that were stranded and sit in their cab. A broken night heater does not automatically mean your ability to think has broken down simultaneously.
Call me old fashioned, but I wouldn’t fancy a stranger sat in my cab all night if I had to have my time off, having a kip, or maybe it’s just me.
Considering the force majeure situation of being stranded on a motorway and a fellow driver asking for help to turn it down because of some personal bias/fear that he could do something to you just shows why the industry is where it is. Every man for himself.
When I was on agency and had to carry everything in a bag, I had a really neat high tog sleeping bag that rolled up very small. I also carried wet wipes, towel and tooth kit even though I rarely did nights out. It’s not just bad weather - all kinds of stuff can cause you to run out of hours and be forced to bed down for the night. I also had an electric kettle and sachets of instant coffee and chocolate.
