when the (god) tachograph came in the guise of safety…more like keeping an eye on the driver to get every minute out of him,the job and the hours should have been looked at and put right but what did we get 15 hour spread overs (safety ) dont make me laugh…no we have been done over time and again that is why young ones do not want to know
15 hr spread overs, its all down to stupid Drivers themselves willing to do 15 hrs instead of parking up on a reasonable 12.
When I was working at my final job we had an agreed 12 hr max shift with no starts before 5.00 am, which got eroded because of idiots. They wanted the 12 hour jobs but went over 12 because they don`t do nights out consequently they very often did 15 because delays. Same as the 5.00 starts got eroded because of idiots not saying NO.
15 spread are a maximum not a target you have to reach, same as speed limits they are the max not a must do.
I have often posted on TNUK displaying unashamedly my appreciation for transport workers unions which seem to be logically a good idea. I am always surprised by the, albeit small, number of ferocious dissenters. Opposition is a healthy thing but I sometimes wonder if there is a ‘dark opps’ department systematically working to discredit the supporters of improvements to workers pay and conditions. Maybe I am paranoid.

Maybe you are paranoid. In my experience the Unions are like Animal Farm. Napoleon the pig had his snout deep in the trough. Squealer undermined everyone and told lies whilst Boxer the Horse worked himself to death and ended up in the newly sign written knackers van!
Meanwhile the URTU and Unite were on a jolly boys outing recruiting Polish. Romanian. Bulgarian and Lithuanian members who would happily work and live in an HMO while sending a pittance back to their homeland.
Sadly, I’d have to agree. Unions are pretty much useless for most UK workers. They’ve pegged their flag to the “Refugees welcome, Open borders, Brexit bad” mantra.
This makes it really hard to reconcile getting better conditions (which means locking out cheap labour) or opening borders which is proven to reduce pay and conditions.
How can you call for open borders and also call for higher rates? You can’t. It’s one or the other.
White working class males are at the absolute bottom of the ‘victim status’ totem. We’ve been thrown under the bus for the greater good.

You’d rather be white and working class trying to find a driving job now be honest.
The Unions are not weak, it is the members that make or break a good unionised company. Run correctly it is the best thing you can have in a firm. Half hearted members and a lack of support to the union then you are wasting your time and you will end up with the experiences that you read on here. Then these weak individuals simply blame the union for being rubbish and a waste of time when in reality it isnt the union that is a waste of time. If you form a union then you need to do it correctly and all stand by each other. At the same time you need to be standing by your other union members at other depots and firms. This is what makes a strong union and also why employers do not want to rock the boat against the unions. If the employer picks a fight with one employee they are picking a fight with a much larger gang. It is just how it works.

Wrong. Totally and utterly wrong.
You will NEVER see a union support it’s members when they call for cheap foreign labour to be halted.
Unions KNOW it undermines pay. They can’t say it. They can’t support it. They’d rather call their own members who pay their salaries racists and bigots.
It’s not racist to state the bleedin’ obvious - more of anything reduces it’s price. It’s simple supply and demand, not racism.
Labour and the unions know their base is the immigrant population. It’s a well known fact.
Labour are done and so are unions in their present form. I’m not saying a union won’t spot a gap in the market and go where others won’t. That would be an interesting thing to see.

Really?
Ever wondered why all those big firms ask you to declare your race, colour, ethnicity, gender?
You think they’re trying to find white working class males with them questions?

Have you seen the new Trade Deals being negotiated?
We are erecting borders and encumbrances with Europe, and opening trade routes and supplying more visas to poorer and cheaper countries.

Mate, I get you like labour. I get you don’t like Brexit. But seriously, don’t just “follow the party line” like a drone. Stop and think for yourself. Really really think and look and get your information from more than whichever echo chamber you use.
I’m not a Labour, Conservative, UKIP, Liberal voter. I’m not a racist and I’m not for open borders.
I don’t blindly follow any political party. Just like I move my bank account, electricity, gas, water, insurance. I’ll move my vote to whichever party broadly has my economic and social interests at heart.
Being a plob that just accepts anything the party says doesn’t sit well with me.
You won’t find me defending the indefensible whichever ever party it is.
A few years ago we at a large west country haulage firm gave Unite full support to push for better pay and conditions, they responded by saying they didn’t think it was a good idea to upset the company.
Unions can f**k off
