Umbrella v limited co

Limited company every time. I’ll not go into the details, but there are big advantages over self employed or umbrella. I opened a limited company to get paid by the agency and took on a specialised accountant. (didn’t have time to do my own books) Bingo, job’s a good 'un. VAT registered give you an extra 5% for almost no effort. You’d be amazed what can be put through the books so i’ve been told.
Commonrail, if you’d like a chat, drop me a pm with your contact details.
Cheers

accountant £0.00. if a one man opperation needs an accountant, then that man shouldn’t be in business.

And when the one man operation knows as much as about accounting as an accountant, he should pack in driving and become an accountant! As has already been said, a good accountant will save you more than the cost of their fee.

Every man to their own job!

Accountants build up a relationship with HMRC and, if it is a good relationship, they will normally accept figures without investigation. Do you fill in your own self assessment forms, how long does it take, I don’t even see mine now.
As far as I am aware a Ltd Co. must use a chartered accountant.

Being under investigation by HMRC can be a traumatic experience! Accountants always used to be on first name terms with tax inspectors and built a a level of trust between themselves. Not so much nowadays though as most enquiries are dealt with through call centres.

Only Limited companies that require an audit need to use a chartered accountant. Drivers earning an ordinary living wouldn’t need an audit and if they so wished, could submit their own accounts.

thanx for the info chaps, all taken on board
