Does anyone else smell a rat in the ‘driver shortage’ narrative.
If he doesn’t like being out too long there are numerous other local work choices that would provide a home every night regime probably moreso.
Like driving a Hiab wagon doing local building materials deliveries or local multi drop distribution work.
Or even a fuel tanker.
Wouldn’t want to be too long out on the road away from home doing distance work perish the thought.
Go on then jump don’t let the door hit you on the way out I’ll give the job a go and see if I can hack it.At least I’d have the bottle to park up at 12 hours regardless and tell the guvnor don’t like it then I’m off too.
Bin Man:
Could someone calling the jobless lazy explain how these people are going to pay for training, the test, medical and expenses to get to the place where they can get lessons.
I asked if jobseekers can currently do this and was told no.
To be fair, seems it depends on what part of the country you must be in, a friend of mine advised me, he got funding from job centre.
He got training, test and possibly 1 retest… and free dcpc …. He’s got help from haringay council.
I have a feeling if that was the case everywhere there wouldn’t be a driver shortage and it begs the question why isn’t it offered to those interested if the government are serious about sorting the shortage.
JeffA:
Look - if you are forcing someone to go and drive a truck for free then why would the buisness take them? Theres only one reason right? Can you tell me what that reason might be? Why do you think “youth opportunites” were so popular with companies? Cos they got free labour. What other reason could there be?
If someone will do your job for free what do you think your boss is going to say to you when you want paying for working? Hint the first word starts with “F”
Oh - are you claiming the tories want to “help” drivers? Then how come they didnt do a thing to “help” for the last 11 years theyve been in power?
If there’s a job there then obviously it should be paid at the going rate and unemployment benefit has never been paid at the ‘going rate’.
The idea of work for the dole is effectively exploitation verging on theft of wages.
I can also remember being expected to turn out acceptable merchantable quality products on ‘apprentice’ money as time served workers earning 3 x as much.Which sort of contradicts the reason for the lower pay rate.
When the unions would have been expected to order all such products to be destroyed at the end of the day as practice pieces.

If the government was serious about sorting the attraction of the job it would stop trying to make it a job with no future by its historic let’s get freight off the roads transport policies.

I whats app him last night, he has the funding …. He already has the provisional etc, so he has to do a couple, of things, I think he is on UC so that is why…. Seems haringay is a poor well it is a poor london borough. So they do seem to get a lot of government funding.

Frankly you’d see a big conspiracy in the weather forecast

Let’s hope he’s got more stamina than Sussex most feeble man then.
As I said the choice of 9 - 10 hours max home every day local work is there of he wants it.
All I read was someone who hasn’t got the bottle to tell the guvnor 12 hours is enough and park up.
The rest seemed a reasonable job but obviously wouldn’t suit the get distance freight off the roads agenda.
Metro also obviously wouldn’t want to ask anyone doing London multi drop or building materials work what they thought about the job just as they didn’t ask him why not.
toonsy:
According to The Times there’s been a total of… 27 applicants for emergency fuel tanker driver visa thingys
Missed the 1. It’s 127
No it seems you were correct the first time. 27 visas for ADR work 100 for other transport apparently, although in the very narrow window of dates to apply many more might have joined the stampede.
