maverick72:
revs between 14&17 i think to change down just apply slight pressure to the stick and itll slide in nice and easy
That looks rather high to me Maverick.
I think it’s more like, knock into neutral at about 5 - 700, slide it into the next lower gear at about 1000 - 1200 ish (You know how fussy those twin splitters are ).
About my favourite boxes though.
yeah your right i got my 7s mixed up with my4s between 7&14 then thatll do for now keep crunching and enjoy
i had one in erf coupled to ■■■■■■■ 325 hell of a match i thuoght it was alot like a foden 12 speed but more refined, its a while since i had mine 7 years
but i remember least i think i do a move called bunny hop gear stick in first position switch in high right ,off throttle gear stick to neutral switch to low gear stick back to first position it is a good quick move when going up steep hill
i had truck 5 years no clutch or box probs.
When pulling up a hill instead of waiting for the revs to drop when doing a switch change try this. Select next switch change (it doestnt matter what gear lever position you are in ) with out dipping the clutch move gear lever in and out of gear. as quick as you can get the stick out and back in you will have engaged the next highest gear.
little mark, for goodness sake dont try what i described. harry and welshman have it right.it is dificult to put into words i should not have said anything when i could not rememberbut it is a good box you will like it
I found they worked excellent with the Perkins TX engine and the Cat engines because the revs seem to drop quicker on them than the old L10 and the later M11 ■■■■■■■■ I used to change up using the pattern 1 st gear - position 3 on splitter then 2 nd gear - pos 2 then 3 rd gear position 1 then split each one from then on. (when loaded of course). Oh how I miss that gearbox. Although when it left me In neutrel once in a while I called it all names under the sun !
dieseldave:
This extra inch is needed to slow the gearbox internals to a speed that allows you to engage the gear you want. You’ll probably hear people call this the “transmission brake.”
Not wishing to be too pernickety dieseldave, but I think it is more commonly termed a “Clutch brake”,so as not to be confused with the parking brake ala
Bedford TK or Land Rover.
Hi bestbooties, You’re not pernickety at all mate. What’s right is right after all!!
I thought another of the old hands would be flushed out of the woodwork with that comment.
That’s why I said “you’ll probably hear people call it the transmission brake,” not that I’d call it that of course
It’s one of those things that just happened to get called by the wrong name, which then stuck for all time.
Now I’ve mentioned it, I’ll bet that you’ve heard other people using the same wrong name for it as well.
Hi All,
OK, so I’ve been using this thing for a few days now and it’s begining to do what it’s meant to. That is, it changes up and down when I want, with only one fake neutral and two grinding episodes in three days (thanks to your tips, I do like the one about selecting the next gear on the switch, grabbing neutral, then slamming the stick back where it came from, ace for a speedyish getaway). Thus I’m actually beginig to enjoy the experience and can see why people do like it. But I have a new problem. I need one of these things for my car now because after a day of driving with the twin splitter, I find I want to do the same with my Corsa and I can tell you that I don’t think Vauxhall intended their box to be used in such a manor…LMAO!!!
Thanks again all, Little Mark.
