Tv production company seeks female hgv drivers

Lucy:
Ok. I’ve e-mailed them, making it clear that I’m committing to nothing at this stage. We shall see.

:open_mouth:

Why does the programme have to be about female drivers, rather than just drivers? Is it because you think viewers will only tune in if it is a female driver, because the fact women drive ‘big trucks’ is seen as some kind of novelty? I don’t think that is doing any favours to the female drivers and I would be surprised at any that take you up on your offer. The only reason I can see for asking for women drivers is for the “Look at that, a woman can drive a truck” factor.

jdavies:
The film is aimed at telling the real life stories of female drivers. The weeks away from home, the long and short journeys, life on the road, the friendships built along the way and the hopes and ambitions for the future.

Take the word female from the above quote and it applies to all drivers and you would still have a programme.

jdavies:
We’re looking for women who feel they can give us a unique insight into life on the road. Whether you’re a highly experienced overseas driver or a complete novice starting lessons, we’d like to hear from you.

Replace the word women with drivers in the above quote and you still have the basis for the film.

Unless of course you are really going to be laying on thick the “Look at that, a woman can drive a truck” angle, which makes me think the programme will do more harm than good to the image of drivers, of both sexes.

Totally agree neil, it will just make it look as though women are getting a rough ride by having to stop out all week, but because we are tough male truckers that makes it all ok does it, i think not.
Just brought your book by the way of amazon, £10.01 hope its worth it

Did anyone see the documentary with Granville from Deveraux of Teesside a few years back? I thought it was pretty good. He did a sterling job of telling everyone how it really is for us drivers. I’d give them a chance if I thought I was doing some good for the profession.

Why not  :unamused:
There are female drivers in the industry so maybe they just want to take a look at the job from a female point of view

I cant see the problem

If the programmers really were interested in the least about the transport Industry, why are they not queueing up to make programs about the crap drivers have to endure at RDC’s along with the Morons driving their cars at 40mph on Motorways in the middle lane etc

Try making a program showing an item from its raw products being transported into the factory to it being transported to the customers home, pointing out the different stages of transport involved and the stress some drivers endure because of stupid just in time delivery schedule requirements.

Bring into the equation the unjust fuel charges hauliers are paying compared to Jaques Froggy who can send his Truck complete with 1500 ltr fuel tanks into the UK on Monday and haul british goods throughout the UK all week at a fraction of the price because he does not need to purchase fuel in the UK at £4.80 per gallon or pay parking fees nor does he need to adhere to uk speed limits because the police feel it is too expensive to persue him through the courts, therefore letting Jaques do more runs in the day.

Of course programs like this are not made because it is seen as supporting the British Hauliers and obviously Tony B-liar does not want that does he?

I appeared in a program made by Shine TV who were making a program about the pitfalls of employing family members in a family business, I was told it was to prevent other family businesses falling into the same situation as myself and ending up in an Employment Tribunal, the finished program was a bosses from hell type program which used very selective edited cuts resulting in a totally opposite program being aired as it gave me saying things but not the reasons why things were said

If there is one thing I have learned it is never to trust or believe the media, they only give the sensational side of things in a bid to sell more papers or attract more viewers, thats why I now wait until I have both sides of a story before making my mind up as to who is wrong and who is right.

You can more or less Guarantee that the program would be there to have the public sitting saying it is disgusting that a mother can abandon her kids for a week just to be a truck driver, sorry but it dont wash with me, they are out to make money by selling the program to TV companies around the World and it needs to be sensationalised to make it sell.

Davey Driver:
If the programmers really were interested in the least about the transport Industry,

Who says the makers are interested in the industry because from what i can see they have asked for Female lorry drivers to tell them about there lives on the road,

Not listen to someone whine on and on about rising costs and how the jobs changed etc etc etc Jeez who wants to watch an hour long programme about some whiny old trucker moaning about how the jobs not the same as it was 200 years ago

simon

Which Kinda defeats the object Simon, the way the industry is going there wont be any british male or female drivers left as the Foreigners will be doing it all

Perhaps thats their idea, make a program about women drivers (Similar to the Land Army Girls) and then its there for prosperity for your great grandchildren to watch and say I never knew that

Such a cynical outlook davey :unamused:

If the job is so bad why do you still do it

Channel 4 springs to mind when they did the documentary on Royal Mail and pilfering. Turns out, it was a set up by Channel 4 using actors. How many of you saw the small apology from them once they had been caught.

Newspapers too seem to print lies more lies and ■■■■ more lies.

Personnaly would not trust them as far as i could throw them

That’s precisely why I’ve contacted them. The job is just the same for men and women, and it’s important that the point is made. Yes, there are difficulties, but they are all about how women are - to this day - brought up with the double standard born of trendy talk about equality, and are 99% in our own heads.

The problems are to do with guilt, expectations, and all the other things which affect any working mother. Truck driving mothers are no different, just as female drivers are no different to male ones. Unfortunately many women don’t realise that until it’s too late, by which time they are tied in emotional and moral knots.

Since it’s women they want to talk to, it needs a woman to point all this out. I haven’t committed myself to anything, but I’m curious as to what they do actually hope to portray.

the point being that a driver is a driver regardless of their ■■■, so the only reason for saying they want female drivers is so they can make a big issue of the fact a woman can drive a truck and I don’t think that would do woman drivers any favours.

The women who post on here don’t seem to have any different issues to the men so if they want to do a straight forward programme about drivers, and the things they face in their working life, they should do it and the ■■■ of the driver shouldn’t matter.

But they dont want to do a straight forward programme on drivers they want to do one on women drivers

I can understand what you are saying about a driver being a driver but again they have asked for a female driver so that is what they want :unamused: :unamused:

Easily Answered Simon, I’m part of a dying Breed

Has it not occured to you that for every 4 or 5 drivers retiring or dropping dead, only 1 new driver enters the industry

Perhaps the program is to be made so it can act as a training video for future generations? (After all, when is a woman ever wrong?) :smiling_imp:

Or maybe for computer programmers to use as a demo for programming future Truck Driving Robots (After all, when is a woman ever wrong?) :smiling_imp:

Just another Jungle reality program where the contestants will be forced to eat disgusting looking things off a plate in a dingy portacabin on the A1and sharing a toilet that hasnt been cleaned since it was built.

The ladies will probably have to talk about their favorite design of curtains in a truck and complain that they cannot get rigger boots in size 4 :stuck_out_tongue:

I see another Davies Turner type programme with some lady trucker called Fagash or something

Id rather scoop my eyeballs out with a spoon than get involved in summat like this! :open_mouth:
Can you imagine the leg pulling that would go on from the rest of your work mates, you would never hear the end of it.
Personally,I go into work, grab my notes, hook up to my trailer & go to my delivery address. Its not rocket science. I just want to be left alone to do my job, end of story. I totally fail to grasp this ‘female equality’ angle that a lot of these type of prgrammes go for. If I couldnt do my job well, I would be unemployed, simple as that. Unfortunateley, Im hopeless at playing the ‘girlie card’ & mincing across the yard flaunting my ■■■■■ in order to get tipped quickly, although I do know of one girl who is, & everyone falls over to help her…actually, thinking about it, she would be totally suited for this role, perhaps I should tell her! :smiling_imp:

 Amen to that.

Granted, plenty truckers, if not all  , would love to see a programme about female truckers. We are only 2-3% of the industry, so this is understandable. But things start to go very ■■■■ up when the request is for a programme ONLY about female truckers. What’s all that about?

A programme featuring both male and female truckers is the way forward.

Now that is an interesting idea “■■■■■■■ truckers” i,ll phone men and motors now… :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

p.s. Only joking ladies dont hit me
