TV LICENCE

Hi Coffee,
Well it does seem that this stupid TV Licencing law has been sorted out to make it sensible and easily understandable but find it puzzling why you say it’s ‘driver’s bullcrap’  This thing with the TV Licence and memo from HQ is something that happened to me and just because you don’t know about it or believe it doesn’t make it ‘drivers bullcrap’ :exclamation:

I think you will find the quote above from your post covers what I said in my original post about the use of TV’s in seperate locations and given that I did qualify this by explaining that it was something that happened in the 80’s but might have changed now I still find it hard to understand why call it ‘driver’s bullcrap’

Because it has never been the case that you required a licence for the TV in the truck, not now and not in the eighties. Just because you got a memo from HQ back then saying you had to have a licence for the TV in the truck doesn’t make it fact, it just means the person who sent the memo didn’t know what they were talking about. Companies regularly send out memos or post notices on board claiming something is illegal when it is just nonsense, recently we had threads about a company insisting their drivers eject the digi card when parked at night as leaving it in is illegal and VOSA would fine them. It isn’t illegal and no fine would be issued for leaving it in. Personally I would never believe any memo claiming something was illegal without checking for myself.

It likely started because someone read the bit about needing a second licence for a caravan or mobile home when the TV at home was being used and said it applied to trucks without reading the bit that clearly says it isn’t required for a vehicle.

Drivers have been repeating this myth for years claiming to have been nicked for it and you had to have a licence with the registration number in place of the address and other such nonsense. The question has been discussed on these forums several times with each thread containing claims from drivers saying their mate had been nicked for it and, this is a particularly good one, that because when you are parked at night the truck is counted as the driver’s home it was no longer a vehicle and therefore required a licence. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: That puts it firmly in the Driver’s Bullcrap category.

Where in any of my post’s have I said it was fact or that I took one bit of notice of the memo or believed it to be the someting I should take notice of. I sought out the facts from TV Licencing and knew then that I was covered. Just coz I’ve related the tale of what my emolyer did at the time doesn’t make it driver’s bullcrap.

Can we end this pointless topic here?
No one is learning anything, and at the end of the day,no one beleives a word anyone says!!! :open_mouth:

Dunno then?:

You didn’t and I never said you had.

No and I never accused you of spouting bullcrap did I? However, the many, many drivers who have endlessly claimed over the years it to be a requirement that you have a TV licence for the truck, supported by MMTM claims, does firmly make it another Driver’s Urban Myth, or Driver’s Bullcrap just as much as the one about missing that ferry, or the one about police, cones, chalk, bays and Tesco.

Just watch the [zb] TV!

You’ve lost the plot, you’re having a go at your self now. Go and have a lie down and watch a bit of telly, but only if you have a licence. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

I see your point but not sure its as simple as that. What is the difference between a mobile home and a vehicle for example?

A mobile home tends to be in one location for long periods, as are static caravans and they are regarded as dwellings. Vehicles tend to move about a bit more and are not homes, you can see they make a point in differentiating between static and touring caravans with only one being a home. On one of the many previous occasions this topic has been raised on these boards, in fact I think it was years back on one of the older versions of the forums I emailed the TV licence people for clarification because the same was happening then as it is now, people applying the conditions for one situation where a TV is used to another. The licence people confirmed as far as a truck, or any other vehicle goes, the TV at home and in the vehicle can be used at the same time with one licence.

A vehicle waiting at an RDC could be defined as a mobile home, what is the period for it to come within that category?

Rob K:
Why bother? :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: It’s not like the TV licensing man is gonna come knocking on your cab door is it? And even if he did they have no legal power whatsoever and can’t do [zb] so you just tell them to [zb] off just like I do when they turn up at my house door. I don’t have a TV Licence and never will.

Too many people scared of their heavy-handed letters but if you look at them closely you’ll see it’s all ‘we may’, ‘we might’, ‘the occupier’ etc.

Aah yes…This man has got the right answer !! You guys DO realise that you don’t need ANY sort of T.V. ‘licence’ don’t you ■■ Not even for your home T.V’s !
Stop paying your hard earned to the Licence scammers and when they come around to ‘persuade’ you, tell 'em to kindly ‘remove themselves’ from your premises !
Have a look on this forum if you don’t believe me… tvlicenceresistance.info/forum/index.php :imp:
