From the instruction manuals it looks like the latest Stoneridge tachographs can be changed with the company card, as far as I can see a Siemens tachograph has to go to a tachograph centre to be changed.

As others have said, it depends how the unit has been set up. If you pay attention to the display when you switch the ignition on (e.g. to open a window), you will notice that the mode symbol flashes (on “other work”) for a short time. If you click (Up or Down arrow) it back to Break while it is flashing, no interruption in your Break will be recorded.Yes, it is a minor annoyance, but once you know how to deal with it, it becomes second nature.
Thanks for that. Useful to know.

Our problem is the opposite. Turn the ignition off and it defaults to rest. You can see that during the day but at night the display turns off and its dark so it can easily catch people out. They should not default to anything
In Coventry at Coop all Daff going to rest if ignition off.
Well i wouldn’t be signing any infringements related to this, as no infringment would have be committed as far as I’m concerned ,

the 63 plate DAF CFs pulling the double deckers. They are ok but some of the hired axors default when the ignition is turned off. We started running them in september and they are still not running smoothly. 10 hours plus is quite common just going to cairnryan and back although we are not allowed to fuel at iceland. We have to stop in at NISA for all our fuel

But it is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that the correct mode is recorded, so an infringement has been committed (albeit not the same as the one on the infringement report…)

all this technology is to much trouble in my book.I’ll leave this driving to
you younger lads,i’ll not renew my medical again.
