Well done for getting a job mate without alot of experience.
It doesnt happen much these days so its good to here that there are a few willing to give people a chance.
I know its good to know what the job is all about but i personally would wait and see what the job is like for yourself as no 2 people have the same view.
Your obviously happy with the terms and conditions and thats all that matters.
Good luck and take it easy and its a bit daunting when you first go it alone.
Yeah will probably ■■■■ meself lol, i remember driving my car for the first time to work on my own and riding my motorbike. artic is another ball game altogether, especially trying to get in on bays and in gaps etc. I totally agree with the no 2 people the same thing.

Started with Turners just a few weeks after passing my test. That was 3 years ago & I’m still there, so they can’t be that bad
I work at the Turners Donington depot atm, been there bout 6 weeks.
I passed my test in January and had to do 6 days with one of their driver/trainers out of the spalding(quadring) depot.
the day rate is a joke, £6.40 for driving an artic is laughable but thats what you get, then after 8 hours it goes to £7.40 or something.
I`m on nights at the Donington depot which is more money but they are messing me about alittle atm. One day start at 2am, next day 5am, but you dont get to know what time you start until about 4pm so its hard to plan your sleep pattern.
I did a 15hr shift the other day, got back in the depot with 2minutes to spare at 5pm, went home, slept until 1am and then woke up to be told over the phone no work for me, so went back to bed, woke up in the morning about 12 noon, got told at 4pm tonite I`m at work 5am, how the hell am i supposed to get sleep as im not tired cos i slept until noon. Other night you can start anytime between 9pm and midnight so its hard to plan your sleep.
If, you`re on days, good luck, my local McDonalds pays more!
£6.40 really is a joke I wouldn’t do it personally even with no experience I got more then that, although admittedly rates have dropped in notttingham over the last few years. Job satisfaction is one thing but paying out 2-3k on a ticket to get minimum wage job is taking the ■■■■
No wonder so many poles there, good luck with the job anyway once you get started keep looking for another job where they respect their drivers and you’ll find it easier to move up the ladder once you’re driving the bigguns.
Im not saying they are a bad company. Most of the lads at the donington depot are english and have been there years but there are alot of new polish lads who cant seem to speak english very well and they WILL work for minimum wage. The lads at donington havent had a pay rise since 2007.
But as a new driver. These are the only firm who will let me drive a class one with less than 2 years as they are self insured and give u alot of training.

I’m with you scotty you do what you have to do to get the first foot on the ladder.
I meet with a lot of Turners drivers ( mostly ex hargreaves ) and theyre a good bunch, a lot of farm collections and rdc deliveries. They are part of the profresh establishment and are profresh North…We are profresh South, this was a name brought about by Sainsburys, as they didnt want every supplier sending in their goods and complicating the system, so all suppliers have to go through Profresh, and pay for the collection/delivery. Some companies have asked if they can get their own trucks and deliver it themselves, but were refused.

I’ve been here a month now and, yes on the face of it, the wages seem quite poor. The basic rates are very low. I’m on bulk liquids myself and my basic rate is £5.91 per hour. Discounting the first two weeks which were spent being thoroughly trained, I’ve earned £450 and £500 take home the last two weeks and we’re quiet right now. You’re paid a series of bonuses which make your money up, plus Turners is one of the few firms which still pays time and a half and double time. Basically, the pay is structured so that if you’re productive, you will earn. If all you want to do is arse around in laybys wasting time, you won’t… seemples.
I don’t know how it works on chilled, but if it’s anything like bulk liquids, you earn productivity bonus by notching up kilometres, and performing certain stationary functions like Tip, Load, Trailer swaps, Tank wash, Truck wash etc.
I trained with a guy who’s been here 23 years, and he says on a good week he takes home £650. All the drivers on bulk liquids have been here years. If the pay was so terrible, you think they’d stay?
If you’re prepared to work and not waste time, you’ll earn the cash.

Don’t you have to be between 16 and 18 to be legal at that rate?
