Truckstop ratings

In no particular order of who is top of the list for good places, but The Red Lion has good value food, big portions, famous for their curries.

I went in there last week for a breakfast, and was a bit disappointed. It was a big breakfast, but toast/bread wasn’t included. I can’t tenner the price, but they weren’t exactly giving it away.
Also, the massive (eastern European?) guy who took my money at the till ■■■■■■■ reeked of skunk/marijuana!
The mug of tea was small, and didn’t last the meal.
I’d try it again for night out, and sample one of these curries, but breakfast? Probably not - there’s much better value and quality to be had.

Just off the top of my head, places ill always aim for are:

Junction 26 truckstop on the M25

Route 74 truckstop on the M74

Lockerbie truckstop

Cannock New Hollies truck stop

Northampton Red Lion truck stop

Crewe truckstop

Any of those I’ve had nothing but good experiences with parking, security, food and showers.

I was however pleasantly surprised earlier today with the new shower block at Strensham services though, not half bad considering they’re free.

One place i loathe stopping at although its a necessary evil sometimes is Heston, no matter which side. Place is an absolute dive and a joke. No idea how Moto can get away with charging to park there. Unfortunately its sometimes the only place close enough for me to grab a 9 hour daily when doing a gig in London.

Yep, used both them recently (see above for Red Lion). Thought the food and facilities at j25 were good.

Telling that the Stockyard is no longer having it’s praises sung from the rafters…I haven’t been there in ages, has it gone downhill? :open_mouth:

Food is on a par with a toby, lorry park full by 1830ish, showers are now cubicles, for the shy amongst us, still a good stop, beware of the story tellers, and for a bit of sport there’s a couple who regularly park down the bottom near the fridge parking for a quick bonk about 1730.

Was in avonmouth, to-other night nice new showers, foods a bit on par with school cooking.

I’ve been using this place regularly since it opened, for many years I thought that this place was the way forward for truck stops in the UK, nowhere near as good as the German autohofs but I imagined it was close as anywhere in the UK was going to get.
Since it opened they haven’t spent a penny on upgrading the facilities for the driver, they have however upgraded the size of the parking area with concrete so they can increase the revenue, also installing electronic gates and number plate recognition so as to ensure that increased revenue is collected.
They’ve also increased the parking charges and cost of the food and drinks way above the rate of inflation in recent years.
They also (last time I was there) refuse to accept SNAP parking as SNAP take a cut out of the charge, make your own mind up why that is.

I am just a Fleet engineer traveling all over the place checking on Maintenance and fighting costs.

I like Colsterworth Breakfast good menu.
J23 M1 Never again, had fried egg with my breakfast and it as dripping with cooking fat that much to ran all over my plate, took it back and told them where to shove it it was that bad. This is not the 1st time either.
I will never have breakfast at the hotel if I stay out. I stop a bit later in the morning.

Cheers Welly

The only truck stop that I will regularly use is Red Moss Truckstop off the M74, same junction as Abington services but turn the other way. It’s a couple of miles up the road but well worth it. Food is homemade and excellent, it’s more like a pub than a truckstop. Always get parked too

I never understood the love in amongst drivers with the stockyard, the seating reminds me of the flea pit cinemas of my youth, the food is nothing to write home about, huge portions, yes, but low quality.
The last time I went in I had ham, egg and chips and the chips were covered in black specks,it seemed like the cooking oil was long overdue a change, put me right off.
The truck park surface is the only redeeming factor.

Route74 at Lesmahgow is the standout truckstop for me at the moment, varied menu with fresh cooked quality food, the staff are pleasant and the restaurant is relaxing and nicely laid out, the toilets and showers are first class and the shop well stocked with lots of goodies.

I only ever had chips once, and I agree, they were crap.
The carvery is spot on though.
