does anybody remember this company?
Is shanahans not known as team transport of clonne,on the n3dublin navin road
I used to work for a subbie on shannigans by the name of Micheal Mc something or other in 90/91, he came out of Newcastle Co Meath, i had a flat top F12, don’t remember any other brits on there so our paths obviously never crossed, I was there when they were running their own boat, which was a total disaster. I don’t think it was too long after I left that it went down the pan & the bloke out the office, Joe ■■? set up as Team.

I to worked for a subbie by the name of noel smythe from dundalk area, this would of been back in 94/95 i started with a flat top fh ex virginia,an went on to a fh globby xl,worked there for 18 months ish. the guty i used to deal with in the office was kevin who i belive was also from shannahans.
Just realised i spelt shananigans wrong, I would’ve loved a flat top FH, I had the series 1 F12 with the splitter on the dash, which was a proper flat top, lack of space wasn’t really an issue as it had a microwave bunk fitted so most of the time I could’ve got away with a day cab! The old girl never let me down though, Michael whateverhisnamewas tried in vain to get me to swap it for a 1986 2800 Daf but i declined, i’m sure the reg was JZG 718 which was a Dublin reg

Jim and Kevin went on to set up TEAM Transport after Shanahans went down, as far as I remember they were the transport managers in shanahans, they got a good few of the trailers and rebranded them, then just used owner drivers.
Nicer blokes you couldnt meet anyway, thats a fact.
I remember that boat, used to go with my dad on it a lot, you either reversed on or reversed off, and there was only 12 cabins so the people left over had to fly on this little 12 seater plane into liverpool, one of the highlights of my childhood was the pilot lettin me sit in the front!
Luckily I never actually had the pleasure of the boat, used to hang it out so that I got the plane, which meant I could spend another night being sick into the Liffey, never did get the hang of the black stuff!!
It was a good job as long as you weren’t in the uk much, it was around the time of the Warrington bombings & I’ve never spent so much time on the hard shoulder talking to the police, apart from that it was good £ & some monumental ■■■■ ups were had!
I’m racking my brains trying to remember the surname of the bloke i worked for, he had a brother, who’s name i also cant remember, who had his own motors too, they were white with red stripes, but cant remember whether they were Volvo or Scania, pretty sure they were 113s but that Guinness must’ve had more of an effect than i thought
i can recall coming out of belfast docks one day with my dad and him getting pulled up, most likely because of the tricolour stickers on the wagon
and they gave him all sorts of abuse, mainly having a go because i was in the trucks and as i was not accessory to the load, i had no right to be there, then when he started answering back, all sorts of threats about nights in cells etc sort of forced him to keep it quiet
■■■■■■■
white scania with red stripes deffo rings a bell with me but thats as far as it goes!
It was all still kicking off out there when I was doing it, didn’t like going through Belfast, not because of the trouble, but it was too long on the boat & another lot of customs going into the south. Didn’t have much grief myself except for getting ambushed by about 30 teenagers with bricks in Newry! Little ■■■■■ stood in the road & pelted me until they ran out of ammo, When they went I carried on down the road & found an RUC man, told him what happened & he wanted to nick me for having no headlights!
they probably werent too keen on an englishman driving an irish wagon maybe?
I was very young but ill never forget the queue to get over the border, and a good mile from the border once i put my hand under the passenger seat to turn on the nightheater, and when we finally rolled up to the checkpoint, they demanded to know what i was doing under the seat!!!
lets hope those days never return anyway
I’ve got a couple of Irish tales too, of shenanigins at the border over missing permit, idiot solutions cooked up by both English and Irish and finally common sense from the Irish.
But I’m publishing a book (yes me too ) and it’s all in there.

It’s an anthology Charlie. A mixture of lots of things I have written over the
years, the vast majority not published, short stories both fiction and factual
several with a transport related background, and poems, usually composed
during long night runs when I would give myself the eeby jeebies trying to
remember them to write down at the next stop.
Your name’s on the list mate.
