The fransen 141 pictured reg xue was driven by an old friend of mine called brian fenwick he had this truck when it was brand new and as far as i know it was the only uk tractor own by fransen.Brian would wash this lorry off at any time day or night it was always immaculate. We had many a trip together on the olau line out of sheerness in the 70,s he lived by the meat market in smithfield and could be seen washing the lorry of with his hose connected to the public toilet in the market.I always admired him,he had been to most places an was a real laugh a really great bloke.I learned some years ago that he had past away from cancer,he always smoked capstan full strength 1 after the other. He was a real character and sadly missed.

I first met brian in dover docks. i had to fix his reefer which was along the side of the trailer. it was pouring it down but he made me quite a few milky coffees and waited outside with me until i fixed it was a couple of hours
A true gentlemen he would always speak when you see him a true star and a very nice bloke
Do they say “Stockport” on the side mate?
If so, where were they based?
I used to live in Stockport in 2005 and Drove for RF Fielding, and David Bratts.
I’d be interested to know where Dow were based.
Great pictures.
Thanks.
Hello All
After nearly 50 years in the industry Only found this site last week (Checking up on The new 28 day tacho rule).
Still work in transport think I blame my father for the diesel in my blood.
Just found the pictures 2 of Plant Eng.F12s(page 24) drove both at one time or the other remember the F1225 6x2 was good for 80mph. but the F12 4x2 1220 was wound up buy one of the drivers an ex AEC fitter you could change up on the dash splitter @ 80 mph used to call it the coach catcher, recon 56mph was about 7TH low.LOL…
Plant Eng .worked for them from 1975-1980.ish.started as a drivers mate.
The F89s were ex PIE as were the yellow/Red trailers and a few of the drivers ex middle east men can remember them well.
A few of you might have know my Father Frank ITALIAN Rossie.worked in the 70-80s for Ashton International/Thurrocks/Speedway Freightway/ and for the Swanson Empire .(as long As James was paying cash in hand.) .
Then he gave up International worked for square grip,Gaffs,Carrols.(when Martin wore short trousers).Sprung Slumber,Goodwins,To name a few if anyone has any pictures would love to see them as Franks now shunting Angels and proberly trying to get a back hander from St Peter for some gates hes got from a mate.LOL…
Will post some more soon.
