Hi , Some really great pics on this topic , my dad used to drive for e m rogers from about 1983 to 1995 , i used to go with him to italy when ever i could get out of school , his name is dave haigh i remember my first trip abroad was in the seddon atkinson 401 they had to belgium ( would love to find a pic of that truck ) he then had a v reg daf 2800 , y reg f10 , a reg scania , b reg scania & last of all an f reg daf 95 , i remember a couple of drivers , one drove for t-o-f i think his name was hughie the other 1 was webby , i was livin in london at the time wiv my mum & webby gave me a lift home 1 morning , we were travelling down the m1 in roadworks when this little datsun overtook us & as it overtook the next lorry it wobbled in to the back wheels of the lorry into the central reservation spun in front of us then ended up in the grass verve off the hard shoulder , i have never seen so many indians get out of 1 car ,

Yes this was an Ex Comart Vehicle Pat converted it to three axles, original wheels were trilex.
Five of them were imported from Belguim and registered in UK in 1975 original year was 1972.

That is one tough looking F88, and with a championed history. Fantastic to hear the truck is still around!
whereabouts is it? I’d love to have a look at her
truckerash:
Wonder how much the design guy got paid for this “STUNNING” colour combinationPink Red Black and Blue, umm nice. See nowadays they are all white with a bit of “powdery pink”.
heres 1 for all you northern lads. Anyone remember Eric Hunwick, think he came from M’chester area. Used to see the trucks in France and someone told me they did M/East with F88’s?
R.H Stevens will allegedly always have pink somewhere in the paint scheme, Alan Stevens quoting in TRUCK magazine in 1991 that ‘Father wouldn’t let us change the pink’. Reg sadly left this life about 10 years ago, and my time at Macclesfield college 1990 - 93 took in many dinnertime walks past the Gunco lane yard. That F12 I clearly remember seeing most of the time. At this point in time, a large batch of IVECO Turbotechs were bought, the early H plates with the ‘old style’ cab, and think from H171 BJA was the ‘Turbostar’ style cab, sure you know what I mean. Think the later J reg trucks had regs with ‘RHS’ in,
and tho I’d never been a fan of vatican Macks, the stump pulling 13.8 litre lump and single stack gave the trucks a superb sound when I saw them round the town, and I gave these motors the nod of approval.
One of the drivers always stands out - ‘Spike’. Anyone know him, knew him? had one of the J plates, and always remember a yank numberplate on the bumper - EIR 48J
Eric Hunwick - yard was in Reddish nr Stockport and yes ran F88’s to M/E. I called in the yard late one
afternoon in 1993 and remember in the office was an impressive painting/mural of some of the trucks once operated - wonder where it is now? The rumour I heard was his son took over the running after
Eric hung himself, mid 90’s?
Stopped trading ages ago
Re; Stevens. The reason for the dirty pink is because the old boy had a small tanker that colour which he used to deliver pink paraffin in. I think a lot of people know that.
Re; Spike . His dad drove the old Iveco wagon & drag on Stevens .The police found £250000 in cash around the house & Spike drew 7 years for drug smuggling & then went back on Stevens .Is that the one you mean ?
Sounds like a right character. Never knew the guy just that his wagon seemed to stand out more than the
rest. A long time friend of mine worked there in the early 80’s.
