When i was on PTM we had 3 Ex Pan Express drivers on there, and all we ever heard was “Pan Express this, and Pan Express that…” and how great it was blah blah blah…

Think their names were Mick Hardy, Paul Clues, and Danny ■■?(very small bloke, must be about 75 now, Lived Aldershot way)

Wasn"t on there myself mate , tried back in the late 80"s , but no joy  .i"ve heard all the stories , bit to be honest never heard a bad word said against them , and in haulage thats as rare as rockin horse

GS OVERLAND:
That pic by the river looks like somewhere between Tottenham locks and Cooks Ferry, on the River Lea !!
I used to fish there when I was a lad …ha ha.
Gs

Sorry Gavin but you are miles out.
I am fairly certain that that you have been here, if ever you transited Rumo which I am sure that you did then you are going to jump into the Tottenham Locks both feet first.
By the way, what was the biggest thing that you ever caught in the River Lea, an old mattress or a supermarket trolly. :open_mouth:
I thought M. & C. Jamie or Klunk would of got this one, and come on Ian you can phone a friend, because I know for a fact that Alan Jones definately went along this road more than once.

Well, as the Chinese storeman used to say " SUPPLIES, SUPPLIES "

I thought last week that I had forgotton what colours Pan Express were in the eighties, I always thought that they were white with a red stripe. So it was a nice suprise for me just now to be looking at the " Robson Road Haulage Scania " thread posted by Truckerash and the fourth photo down is a Pan Express Scania, white with a red stripe.
Ash asked who had her first, well I should of thought Pan Express as I can remember most of them having air con units fitted.
I dont think that there would of been much need for an air con unit in London.

Your first pic could be anywhere in Eastern Europe but I can’t say for sure.
The second pic is most definitely Rumo, can tell by the reg of the Dacia in front and the ubiquitous Roman trucks, but exact location I’m not sure but I must have been that way.
Yes it’s defiinitely Romania in 1980 and yes you have definitely been on this road.
Here is a small clue.
If you wanted to travel on this road today you would need a sub from your boss.
I thought that somebody might of recognised this picture.
If you came out of Sibiu in Rumania in the early eighties, going south you climbed a long hill where there was a restaurant at the top on the right hand side with a large parking place for trucks. If you carried on for about ten kilometres there was a turn on the left hand side for Brasov and Transylvania but if you carried on the old E road for another twenty kilometres you came to a valley where the River Olt was on your left hand side. This valley went on for another fifty kilometres until you came to the town of Rimnicu Vilcea.
Around 1986 most of this valley was flooded to make way for a huge dam, the road at one stage goes over this great lake on stilts about 100 foot high above the old road, so to travel on this road now you would definitely need a sub.

Harvey Grants Figaro.ltd. Tandragee N.Ireland.& Paris France

My Dad ( Derek Williams) started mid 70’s.

Started in one of these,

Then went on to these,

Then moved on to A.C.H/ Nobby’s till they finished.

And is now at E.M.Rogers.

If you have been on there a while, you must know my old mate " Wink" cockerill, he was on the M/E with me, if still in contact, ask him if he has ran into any " Telecost" laterly. cheers Sandman Norman

I don’t suppose any one remembers this? (tongue in cheek)

or saw this street in Holland?( look at shop sign in middle of pic)

or saw this abortion in Dusseldorf Autohof? I was told if you got there during the day you could drive it around the carpark a give your opinion!!! It was a 15.5m trailer with thhe unit underneath, one good point you would be well below mini skirt hem level.
Has any one got any pics of Jan De Ruuy’s wagon and drag with a one piece box mounted on a 5th wheel on the truck and trailer. I saw it on the road once but could not get any pics. It had a hell of a swing both back and front, it was also so unstable it fell over and the Dutch authorities (so I was told) banned it before it could be developed properly

any one know where this is? it’s a trick

I remember seeing this as a lad in truck magazines and always assumed it was a myth, or a prototype which stayed only in the developement phase in a factory. I never knew they actually built one and had it working on the road.

I am also thankful it never took off. What is the name of the manufacturer? What is the truck called? I would like to search for more information about it.

Thanks.

i have the truck article about it will post it up for you

It looks like a Mercedes development vehicle as it has the 3 pointed star on the front, but look at the axle configuration on the trailer, we are already using a similar layout now on the 4 axle splitters. The walkthrough box with doors on each end looks as though it could easily be converted to an airport supply truck to replenish the aircraft with duty free Toblerone
