Great! Let’s just kill everyone involved in a fatal accident instead, no point keeping them alive in prison for decades! Just kill them all no one will mind. It what Jesus would have done. Gods will.
The Judge didn’t give him 110 years because he thought that’s what the driver deserves.
The sentencing guidelines the Judge had to sentence him on dictated the amount of jail.
It’s an emotive case granted but you have to look at the scenario objectively ■■■■ happens unfortunately for him with negative results.
Who knows why it happened brake fade, lack of attention , on the phone, lack of experience, yapping on the cb a myriad of things all conspired together to its ultimate conclusion.
They will reduce the sentence on appeal and hopefully one that reflects the actual offences rather than one that won’t bring the victims back or ruin the rest of the drivers life .
We all make mistakes mine was on the IP5, one I don’t care to remember.
No one died but one thing led to another and before I knew it I was passenger.
In an out of control lorry.

Quite so.
The IP5 has caught out many drivers. Horrible road.
My nastiest experience was on the N121 dropping down out of Pamplona with a step-frame. I was lucky enough to be able to stop on a flat bit long enough to allow it all to cool down, but pushing harder and harder on the pedal to less and less effect is not a feeling I want to repeat.

Yes even the judge almost apologised that he was obliged to pass that sentence. It’s Causing a storm and even relatives of those who passed have been vocal on it being too long. Hopefully though all this fuss will drive home the entire reason for persecution - a deterrent. Homely it will make some think twice about how they do things themselves
he refused to accept a plea deal because he believed himself innocent
thats how the US system works even innocent people get terrified into pleading guilty by the huge sentance they will get if they get found guilty at trial. only 3% of cases go to trial at all. its makes it very difficult to get a fair hearing

always fancied being a judge for the day. id sentence someone to life “and in your case life means life” for a minor offence such as parking fines . Keeping a straight face id say “take him down” and hed stay in the cells overnight but on the way to the scrubs next day
suddenly released by a guard "hush ,just run buddy "
lewn777:
People died from his negligence, but also the negligence of the company he worked for and the testing system. I would say 5-10 years max.
It doesn’t matter that the company may have been negligent that is a separate issue he had the opportunity to stop the truck even with no brakes he chose not to.
If you haven’t already watched it watch this video it shown how he could have stopped safely.
At 1:10 its shows the actual truck go past a run off lane that was not obstructed and instead he cuts a pickup truck up on the bend forcing it off the road directly opposite the start of the run off lane. (screen shots below)

How long has he been driving? Was it just panic that made him not use the run off ramp or lack of experience?
Could of had a brain ■■■■ at a really bad time.
Fair few comments about the company owning the vehicle being negligent?
Where is that alleged anywhere? Is there any evidence of poor maintenance of the vehicle? Maybe there is but I havent seen it? . Brakes fade through over-heating, from over use, dont just assume that “brake failure” is only a maintenance issue.
It isn`t.
.
Is there a lack of awareness and a lack of training evident in these posts?

I agree.
You can sure as hell bet the vehicle (if anything left of it) has been fully checked over,.and if anything wrong had been found the operator would be stood in the same dock.
I bet most drivers on here who have done nothing else other than run from base to rdc on the M.whatever have no experience of brake fade, nor really know what it is.
TruckDriverBen:
do you think the driver will have picked up a infringement for overspeed since he was going at some speed
First off, the speed limits are generally higher on t’other side of the Atlantic, and secondly they don’t usually have speed limiters (or tachographs). So no, I don’t think he’ll have any infringements to worry about.
