Bet there was a lot of crossed fingers ,
Imagine one of they Dafs broke down !
That would have put a hell of a dent on the evenings party even if the had a breakdown mob on standbye just outside the arena (witch they probably did).
Forget The boy bands would have been better just letting “the Who” make the music all night or the Pink Floyd boys (who are talking to each other ) lol

Madness really need to call it a day. Crap for the Jubilee and they were no better tonight.
And who the [zb] are Elbow? Not the most uplifting songwriters there.
Madness where good at Jubilee but think they had sound problems last night…
And Elbow!!! they wrote music for BBC Olympics, and have been playing for over 15 years… and are brilliant live…

Not in any way a fan , but big respect to Gary Barlow , that won’t have been easy .
Daf XF105s used in Olympics closing
Daf has confirmed that several of its XF105 models made an appearance at the beginning of the London 2012 closing ceremony last night (12 August).
The Daf’s are run by Transam Trucking - which merged with Edwin Shirley last year, after the ES Group collapsed in Feburary 2011 - but the events haulier has been unavailable for comment.
“Trucks played such a massive, if silent, part in the success of 2012 that it was with immense pride we saw their contribution recognised at the beginning of last night’s closing ceremony,” says Road Haulage Association chief executive Geoff Dunning.
Transam and Edwin Shirley now operate 130 trucks together out of Stradbroke, Suffolk.

Think you’d get away with ‘finding a safe place to park’?
We saw you on TV drive, you could park anywhere around there

I think that long haired comedian (haha, yea right) bloke who did the Carlie & the chocolate factory & Beatles songs was as well!!
Ross.
i didnt see it all, went to bed when the scooters came out… but george michael was definatly miming on his 2nd song
If you want to know the truth then here goes… the ‘regular’ drivers did all the s***e, collecting & dropping gear off & for the last 5 days lived in fords old dagenham yard with no showers, only smelly portaloos & cold sandwiches while the ‘part-timers’ & office staff!!! got to drive on the closing ceremony.
Enuff said I think…
heard Roger Daltrey saying they mimed due to it being live with many acts be easier to mime?

right, lets set the record straight shall we. rant coming…
sweet truck haul is partly right, the regular drivers, of BOTH transam and shirleys have been doing the real “hard” graft.
some did a hell of alot more than others, when it come to loading all the gear in, and out for both ceremonies.
some worked there nuts off, based at dagenham, stratford etc, with hardly anything in the way of showers, food and the like, which most regular hard working truck drivers put up with on a daily basis without to much of a whinge
some however, blagged 1 easy load in and out, so got to spend alot of free time shopping, drinking in the dagenham social club, and generally chilling out, real hard work eh!!! please note, most of these drivers, are decent, hard working lads who don’t ■■■■■ on here like sweet truck haul.
they are drivers that are mainly between tours which often happens this time of year, and as the olympics is such a huge job, they have had there arms twisted into doing the olympics stuff. i’m sure if sweet truck haul is a “tour” driver, he wouldn’t ■■■■■ and moan, when he’s doing a cushy 3,4,5 or month tour on the roads of europe, probably on a decent number, and used to being fed, showered and pampered, all free of charge, something that most drivers on trucknet only get to dream of, and would be more than grateful of.
sweet truck haul does have some things right though.
yes, the drivers you saw on tv, were a mix of office staff 2/3 depending how you look at it, and a mix of part timers as sweet truck haul put it. yep, i’m one of the “part timers” that did sunday night. i’ve worked for transam a fair bit, to be honest i love it, but been abit unlucky. did most of last year for transam, got home at christmas to find out my dad was dying of cancer, so took the decision to take a step back from touring for a while, to look after my dad. now, as this olympic job was a big deal, they had to have the same people from the start. this wasn’t easy, as most of the proper tour drivers were out already, or due out, so transam needed a pool of drivers they could fit into the very odd schedule of rehearsing for this. we’ve been rehearsing since bloody june, all 1 and 2 days here and there, so it was only ever gonna work with " part timers and office staff" as sweet no it haul puts it
i think transam did a good job of getting enough people together, that were available for the really odd schedule of rehearsals leading upto our bit of fame on t.v the other night. and for the record “sweet no ■■■■ all” we did it with no catering, no showers, and no bloody moaning!!! get over yourself, you ain’t that hard done by i’m sure. are you a “tour” driver with a gripe. sad ■■■■■
please feel free to p.m me if you are, and reveal yourself, you’ll know who i am, the user name is a giveaway.
i had one chance this year to keep my hand in with transam, and do a once in a lifetime job, i grabbed it with both hands. i hope m dad would of been proud, buried him last month, 1 of the tunes at his funeral, was pink floyds, “wish you were here”, so i shed a tear sunday night when it was done live
i’ll never forget my night at the olympics, along with all the hard graft that led upto it, i enjoyed driving madness around, and the freddie mercury thing with the tipper transits. if anyone else liked it i’m pleased, couldn’t give a rats arse what sweet truck haul thought, but if your going to slag people off on here, get the facts right to start with muppet!
Just for you, sorry i didn’t get the cab in the picture.
I personally thought the whole thing was utterly brilliant, the bus with Russell Brand on that turned into an inflatable octopus with Fat boy slim genius, the special effects man that designed and built it was on breakfast t.v yesterday, Mike Kelt was his name i think, said it was touch n go if it would actually work properly as it broke during rehearsal. I noticed one or two artists miming also, but to be fair to soundcheck that amount of performers and individual instruments in such a short space of time was always going to be a non starter anyway especially for a 2-3 minute performance, i remember Britney Spears and Madonna taking flak for lip syncing, but if your dancing around for 2 hours the live vocals would be crap anyway so damned if you do and damned if you don’t can’ t please everyone all the time i suppose.
I could see the planning that went into that must have been a nightmare, having watched Iron Maiden :Behind the beast programme the other night, the story of how they rigged the shows for South America and Japan of which Transam were mentioned numerous times, the ad hoc nature of the work, 24 hour straight shifts building stages, P.A stacks and lighting rigs to the specified drawings, trying to get decent sound from antiquated sound systems provided locally, not having enough power from the gensets, all day sessions with the drum tech building a drum kit then tuning it to Nicko Mc brains preferences, the guitar tech doing repairs on pick ups on Dave Murray’ s and Adrian Smiths guitars that got soaked in a rain storm , superfast load in’s and load out’s , it just goes on and on. Just immense stress all round, so a big up and respect to Transam from me , well done lads !!
