Fantastic job, Jona . Looking forward to seeing it at Gaydon! Robert
Yes it is the same Steve with the Seddon in Craddock colours he tells me that he has had it since 1987, Jona
I think you’ve answered Pete Smith’s question there, Jona (the post above the one of mine you’ve just quoted)! Pete informs me that Steve Evans is the lad with the Craddock Brothers Seddon 4 wheeler who makes old haulier signs, he was by the gate at Gaydon earlier in the year and also runs Aldridge transport museum, just round corner from your yard, apparently.
Gerry Cooks photos ,some are of the T/A that I had left behind, I hope that he will bring back to life his stories that are hidden in the sands of time , The first one of Taffy Bill with the road train I can only say that this man was (one of a kind ) RIP and certainly never backed away from the challenges that we all faced in KSA he was hard working ,and a good mate of mine , Ron
It ant arf hot mum , it’s funny how one photo can Evoke memories of Saudi Arabia , that shot of the truck stop in the desert ? I remember sleeping on there wooden beds on many a breakdown 100 miles from anywhere with just a blanket, to hot to stop in the day, No Shade , with Christmas trees pulling in for the night going pitch black after 7pm , then awakening a first light with the Mercs starting up and watching there heavy loads sway on the uneven hard sand of the desert floor , pulling on to the rutted tarmac , in warm sunshine this was the best time , those Tonkers where heavy heavy ,Ron
The lad 2nd from the left was Peter Slym , A great lad!! heart and soul of T/A hard working always having a laugh , I can see him in the Jeddah docks when we where waiting for the clearance of the containers !!! lying on the tarmac in mid day red hot in shorts ,with his arm through big sheets of cardboard trying to lift off the Arabs where trying to look under his body as we all encouraged him flap faster to achieve this believable feat ■■ He came home with hepatitis B and later died. RIP , he undoubtably court this in the stinking hole called Jeddah , the first man on the left is taffy Dave , he was the one when an Arab driving his car over took him at speed and ( lost it going into a 4wheel slide ) he just slotted into the oil pipe trench !!! Dave stopped and stood on the side of the car lifting the door up so he could scramble out , We all shouted DID He give you a drink ? Har Har Taffy only did things for money much like some people on this thread , the one in the middle is Les ? I can’t remember him , may be he left before i joined ! The next is Tony Cope he was the richest driver that I ever met , then there’s Derick Farington the Laurence of Arabia who drove incognito with a english Guide called ■■ I will find out . Ron (to be continued )
Ron the lad in the middle is Eric Bowers he came out the same time as Taffy Bill and copey you fitted that spare wheel carrier on the front of his Mack I spoke to him a few months back he is retired now and still lives in Brownhills
