robert1952:
What was Ken Broster driving during to achieve this 95tons record, Ron? Robert

A-J !! My farther Joe was a tram driver for WBC and when my eldest brother Joe was being born in 1933 the M hospital at Bloxwich Where The tram terminus was , he rang the bell so much so that the hospital staff complained about the noise waking up the babies !!! The Bus depo across the railway track the back of our house not more than 500 yards away ,and was Bombed during the war, and the incendiary bombs where landing on the embankment missing our house by feet ? We where in an Anderson shelter the bottom of the garden which made us even nearer the fire bombs that’s why I have always backed the home industries Ron, Ps every thing was on ration books and we did fetch the Coal in the Pram bloody hell we where poor Har har , Ron

A-J yes you have got me going , this photo is at the level crossing in Rushall Nr Walsall the Reg on the bus is walsall , DHI was the. Mayors car a RR serviced at the WBC the steam train I think was a goods train ? Stania ? !! This line passed our house at an incline when in the bad winters they put on a double header !! The steam sounds where fantastic slipping on the frosted track !! Don’t get me going on about double bottoms ? Har Har Ron

Talking of coal this is true ,Bently power station about 5mile away was coal fed ,the coal got there by barges on the cut !!in the winter we took the pram and an old 45gal drum with holes in ! with rope tied to the drum?this was then threw into the cut and used as a drag line pulling it along the bottom and dragging it out to get the coal that had fallen of the barges this was very rewarding good quality coal !in need with 7 living at home ,we all had Chill blames on our feet and the cure for this ■■? Was to put our feet in the ■■■■ pot 1/2 full of course ,so you see KSA was no trouble to me ,10days in tent was a holiday given the chance !!! Ron

Now that’s interesting: your cure for chillblanes is the same as the alternative cure for athlete’s foot! I loved the sound of labouring steam trains and the sight of their steam and smoke on wintry days. The trolley-buses too: we had 'em in Nottingham back in the '50s and early '60s - they could out-accelerate any commercial vehicle from standstill! Robert

R 52 I never had athletes foot so this must be true ? I don’t think it was much good for Chill blames I write smiling , the trolly busses where surprisingly fast and the deceleration was really good too !don’t mention down hill ? Ron

Hello Pete I think you are right there was a transport company just across the crossing on the left side , the council put a weight restriction on that Road and maybe they moved ■■ I carnt recall there name but it sounds familiar ? Thanks for your interest Ron. I should know the name ?

Hopefully you’re dad is on this picture Ron, it’s about 1925-1929…also a picture of a bus and tram…
pictures come from walsall.gov.uk/localhistorycentre wish you an enjoyable time! A-J

Thanks again A-J Wonderfull photos your research is well appreciated , my wife has been studying your picture of the Bull Stake Darlaston with interest !! This was where she was born, her farther was Italian and served in the British Army during the war Her mother was English I thought a had better make this known , before some one makes a comment about the Italian nation ■■? Looking closely at the WBC staff there are one or two possibilities thanks for that , When the Bus depo got hit with the bombs ? My dad ran across the train lines and drove out as many buses has he could. the roof of the sheds where high and covered with reinforce glass this was dropping on to the rolling stock and must have destroyed a number of Buses before the fire engines came He was parking them in the streets adjoining , another employe did join him?? He was the one who got commended ? The flares just lit up the whole area ,There main target was Talbot Stead the next factory from the sheds steel manufactures , the sound of these bombers was unmistakable !! They had a Hummm with a intermittent lull this must have been the governor kicking in I can still hear this sound and see the search lights criss crossing the night sky ,Darlaston got badly hit , The night sky looking south east from us was a crimson Red this was Coventry 20 mile away , my dads brother Tom was killed alongside countless others ■■? It’s our past and why not tell it , Ron

Really heartwarming Ron and so nice that the both of you can refresh memories…the website is ok but
the ABC-buttons need more research…I found the pictures under “Busses” but I am confident you’ll both
find more useful parts of history. Put it on paper for yourself/yourselves and the (grand-)children!

Nothing wrong with Italians…fine kitchen, nice people with a lot of expressions and the language is ok too!
I often visited Italy (Milano, Torino, Novara, Verona, Lucca, Firenze, Rovigo, etc.) all for Italian-oldtimers,
mainly commercial vehicles. Also remember the nice movies…la vita e bella, oggi, hieri, domani,…

Ron, you kept us waiting and curious for some days…what tractor was Ken B driving in to get a notation in
the Trans Arabia Guiness Book of Records with a double bottom and 95 tons?

Best regards for Betty, Lizzy…

A-J !! I have just noticed the reinforced glass on the same Shed roofs in your picture what can’t speak can’t lie Ron Thank again

Well just to get it out of the way ■■ I can’t print it because a good mate of mine was involved and he is no longer with us Ron ,you will have to waitfor a confession if he is of that cloth ?

Ron, I respect your feeling and choice…no harm done, but keep the memories alive for yourself.

Two for the the price of one , I say you by one you get one Free Ron
