Guday Backsplice , good to know you are still standing ! Although you will on you back at this time of our day , here’s a photo of a couple of lads from 1978 ish .we delivered 6 two stick Mac,trucks to Khamis Machayt the lads where away for over a week this was a rare time giving me the opertuanty to have a hot shower for a full week normally the hot water would have run off when the villa was full JD and myself where always last in ? the sand stuck to the oil and grease and was hard to remove in cold water ? But I am sure it kept the flies away Ron. ( Ps having difficulty uploading photo ) ■■?

It was a warm summers evening in Jeddah ,temp dropping slowly from the days hot sun of 50 deg Celsius, the Mosquetoses where about, as JD and me got ready to greet the the Royal Yacht Brittania that was docking in Jeddah port at 1900 hrs , there where only a handful of people there as the dock was cordened off with ropes about the leanth of the ship . It made us feel proud in its blue white livery and gold portholes with a Frigate close behind . The Marines in full dress uniform came down the gang plank and marched to there drum Tatoo , it was a sight for sore eyes fantastic in fact , never to be forgotten . Ron

Och Ronnie … just knew you had a connection to the Royals …did HM ,s horse box have a ■■■■■■■ in it ■■? and it needed a tweek up when you were on leave ■■?/

Well that’s different ,is there any connection with Trans Arabia , that replica truck to me brings back untold memories of Jeddah ,& Dammam , and of course Tony Cope ! But the tragic loss of the man Jona RIP who rebuilt that Icon Brings a lump to my throat , every time I think of him , Ron

I remember walking along the So called Kings Palace in Jeddah with JD stinking red hot ,a hight red brick wall with creepers growing over and century boxes with armed Bedouin soldiers slouched against it, alongside where lots and lots of passport photos of wanted people ? Inside it was said ,there where car parks with every exotic motor cars of the world parked up ? It’s what money can buy ? But to have real life memories of men and there trucks is some thing money carnt buy , Ron

Saramat%202.jpgYou are correct Ronnie …hard times that have left great memories !! I looked on it as an adventure and boy thinking back it sure was try telling some of the stories and folk just don,t believe that you could be driving around KSA on your own to places that were hard to pronounce ( Al Sulayyl for instance ) or a couple of hundred kliks off the asphalt and sometimes a bit scary if you let it
I see a post from KenB so he must have got off the cruise ship in time ■■?..did you Ken ■■ Any way Ron I,ll be off line for a while as my good lady has to have surgery this week and its very nerve wracking
stay down in the shed mate and I,ll catch up in a couple of weeks I hope

Hi
Yes got off the cruise ship in Auckland and headed home against the advice of our 2 children who want us to stay in NZ but immigration had other ideas - off ship abd straight to the airport. We were planning to come home via Hong Kong and Dubai but no go do straight home on transit Dubai - 30+ hrs.
Have to say we really enjoyed our trip and the Australian and New Zealand people and countryside - Blenheim in NZ is my secret hideaway - I wish. Instead we are locked into this horrible situation created by the Chinese in a laboratory and leaked - that’s my theory anyway.
Sorry to hear your wife is not to well and hope her surgery this week goes well - all the best to you both - God Bless

Regards

Ken
