Tramping

You mean you got away with it■■? :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Lucky sod!!

lets just say the the things ive got away with out do what ive been done for.
but canada might not take me had a case dropped against me last year .thought i was goining to have a career in mailbags.

And you were thinking of going for drudgery and 9-5 work but didn’t want to do the mailbags…■■

■■■■

When my ex and me were splitting up, she said" you come home once amonth with abag of dirty washing in one hand and a hard on in the other, then sod off again to who knows where, for another month and you wonder why Im’e leaving you" I couldnt fault the logic.

I’ll be honest, I’m not tramping in my current job, but I want to do it, it’s what I expect from the job and what I was expecting when I did my licenses, I want to experience the highs and the lows of life on the road, and doing what you need to do to get by and get the job done as it were. I want to sit and listen to all the b/s stories people throw around and though it may sound strange submerge myself into the ‘‘driving community’’. I won’t just jump ship at any time though to get that sort of job, it’d have to be the right job and for the right reasons, that could be ten years away, it could be ten minutes away, you can never predict the future.

Also the subject has been banded around the household recently, working nights, when kids are in bed I’m working, by the time I get in they’re off at nursery, when they get back I’m in bed, but getting up sometimes I don’t see them of a night, sometimes I do but not for long, as they need to get to bed. The missus well we don’t mind each others company, but it’d not the be all and end all if we don’t spend every waking minute together… She said to me, it’d probably be better if I was out all week I’d the the kids more than I do now, see her more properly rather than almost in passing as it can be sometimes, but saying that if I got a phone call tonight saying new job tramping as of Monday, she may very well change her tune :grimacing:

i get out of bed and i’m at work. so when i have 9 hours off, that’s what i get.
not like the others. 9 hours off, deduct travelling time, arguing with the missus time, etc, etc. equals very little sleep.
that’ll be why tesco drivers crash so much.

You have to give it time to find out if you like tramping (didn’t several people on here say that to me a few years ago…Lucy)

But it is true, you do get a sort of trampers disease. When you are on the road you can’t wait to get home…then when you are home, you are itching to get away again. It took me several years and jobs before I finally settled into tramping (each time I came off, I vowed never to do it again…only to find a couple of months later I was missing it) then the firm went bump.

Early days with the new job but I am enjoying it so far…be even better when I get assigned “my own” motor

i’ve been a tramper since i was 21 but i had one year off tramping doing nights for tnt then back tramping i been over to italy a few time’s but most of my time tramping has been in the uk. i like to park at some of the better truckstops you will find them as you work your way around the uk  as for kit it has been posted before but , i take maps, water, gas cooker, food, sat nav, sleeping bag ,etc sometimes i take me laptop too . my dad was a driver on euro work so i grew up with the job and take tramping as part of the job its not for everyone some people don’t like it but i enjoy it . so i say try it if you don’t like it you can always look for a job that get you home every night if you don’t like it .

as for the kit you take with you,a first aid kit is a must with paracetemol, plasters, antiseptic ointment etc and most importantly immodium for when you get the squirts cos the services will charge you a fortune for these items :unamused:

I just got back from Barcelona last night, that was a six day trip, absolutely fantastic, beats looking at the M25 any day. I’ve been away for three and a half months on a trip before, I love it!

I’ll be weekended in Barcelona in a fortnight’s time, brilliant, even if I do have to miss Strictly or whatever crap is on the telly. It’s just in me.

I didn’t get into this game to do nights out but it just sort of happened, to break away from the M25 and go to places I’ve never been before spurs me on and keeps the job exciting, plus the financial reward is far better.

Only downside for me has been the relationship with my GF has been pretty strained at times but we try to spend as much time together at the weekends as possible, plus I call her during the week so she doesn’t get lonely, she’s been out of work for ages which don’t help either.

Not sure if I would like to do tramping for the rest of my life, when we have kids I think I’ll pack it up for a while, defo don’t wanna be donig it when I’m nearing retirement age but that’s a long way off

One thing most trampers have in common is an “ex wife”
There was a time when you could take the frau with you on trips, but of course health and safety and insurance put the mockers on that.

I tramp and spent years collecting things to make my cab ‘comfyer’ ← Spell check lol I have 240v, dvd, freeview, internet etc But once you figure out place’s to park and whats around you it can be fun. I personally spend half the week in my cab till i fall sleep and the rest i goto the pub, walk etc i have a map with locations to park sadly with ratings to and everyone who tells me some where else i add it on. I love it because the mrs gets turned off with the switch of a button lol but you can see and meet allot of different people to.
