nostalga -its not what it used to be :stuck_out_tongue:

I remember when we first got phones fitted, no on thought of locking them or anything. I think that lasted until the first bills came in. One bloke having marital problems did about £250 on a round trip to Spain.

A lot of blokes with marital problems did £250 and more on round trips to Spain, not necessarily on the phone though.

In the early 80’s in Poland we had to go to the British Embassy in Warsaw to fax the office, under martial law you couldn’t fax or phone out of the country from anywhere else.
The rest of the Commie Bloc didn’t fare much better either, fax from hotel in Sofia or try and find a post office in Hungary to book a call through to the UK.
No problem at the National in Belgrade though.

Early 90’s Van Maanen had a selection of freephone numbers from France,Italy,Germany,Spain and UK.
Then came the dreaded mobile phone, step backwards!

Some of us elderly boys will keep in mind getting reload address`es from the coin phone box,or sat in a cafe where you pay per unit on a rip off phone.Faxing was common, find a hotel with, waiting for hours, for group page, there would be numerous collections, for the tiles and ceramics, about a dozen, and the wine collections around the Bordeaux area, small lanes and access.

Is there a reason why you’ve copied and pasted half of Toby’s original post ?
