Traffic light cameras on the N. Circular :(

Well its now been over a week, still not heard anything from the agency…

But I am not worrying, as in a weeks time I will be driving in Afghanistan for 6 months. Courtesy of an all expenses paid holiday ( or thats what they told us ) from the British Army.

Still, see if I hear anything when I get back.

Hi all,

Just a quick one,

On Friday night, i did my first ever run up the North Circular at about half eleven at night. On my way round, I came upto a set of lights which were on green, I had roughly 10 meters between me and the lights when they decided to change, having a load of about 10 tonnes on the back I knew i would not be able to stop safley in time and bearing in mind my speed was about 25mph.
As I went through they had changed to red and sure enough got the double flash  as my trailer cleared the lights.

After being quite annoyed with myself seeing as I am now looking at my first set of three points and £60 fine  . I decided to phone my best mate who drives for Stobarts and have a chat. he said that there may be a chance of leniancy because of the trailer already being through the lights.

If any has had a similar thing or has any knowledge of this sort of traffic offence, gimme a shout please.

I see there are quite a few rants about agency drivers at the moment, if anyone has a problem then please feel free to pm me and as an agency driver i will listen sypmathetically to whines about agency drivers and then assainate you

It doesnt flashes if your Tractorwheels went over the Contact before Redlight

be careful out there Grundril

Hello all,

I am back for xmas and decided to give the agency a bell regards to the aforementioned traffic light dilema…and the good news is that nothing has been heard.

So I am guessing that after 4-5 months chances of hearing anything will be slim !!!

Anyways time for the pub.

A friend in Met police tells me all red light fotos are carefully checked…

It is not an automatic NIP with 3pts and £60 to deal with.

I know this as i got “flashed twice” at Hammersmith on A4.

Wet afternoon, doing 30-35 in 40mph zone, lights changed, had half artic length to stop, not safe enough in my view…resulting skid would have taken me into the junction. Went through the lights, was over half way across the junction as the trailer wheels set camera off.

Spoke to mate in Met, he told me they will assess the weather, your speed, time on green / amber / red and the traffic in the area and take it from there.

If i had been cab only, then i would have not been flasked as i was through the junction safely. As was pointed out, red light cameras are designed with 15ft cars in mind not 60ft of HGV !!!..

Good luck…

Keep us posted in the forum…

I got done on the A45 Northampton. I took the points and fine, maybe I should have argued it.
I went through the lights on green, the first photo was tjhe rear wheel on my trailer, the second was my trailer over the line. How the hell would I know they had changed red? my cab was on the roundabout

i still think its down to hesitating to much, shall i go, shant i go, will they change, wont they .
i just decide to go and floor it , if you go through at 25 m.p.h theres a fair chance itll flash you as your trailer will be half and half , but if your doing 50 your though it in no time.
theres some at the traffic light going westbound on the a52 at radcliffe on trent and i often came through as they changed but never got done.
i made my mind up to go so booted it through.
i know a lot wont agree but i just think you can worry to much about them and end up in no mans land

Thats ok ady until you get someone coming from the left or right at the lights whos doing 50mph as well.

Am I the only one that has the same problem several times a week.As you are approaching a set of lights that can be seen for some distance you think they’ve been on green so long they MUST change before you get there so you start to ease up,and ease up,and ease up,and by the time you’ve got halfway down the 'box .

eh 'eck. that’s an old fashioned way of driving isn’t it?

Brakes are for slowing.
Gears are going.

maybe this will need to get split off into a separate thread?

Nowdays If that red light comes on b4 I cross the line I just hit the anchors as the law states that if your run into the back of someone the its automaticaly your fault…

not necessarily so clear cut. For instance: If you were following a car onto a very clearly deserted round-a-bout & it stopped abrubtly at the give way to “look” and you hit it, they can be pursued with a charge of driving without due consideration for other road users.

I think the idea they have in Malaysia & some larger cities in Thailand is excellent.

Above the far lights is a large digital countdown timer which shows how many seconds you have before the lights change either way. Displayed in red or green accordingly.

like this: AOL Video - Serving the best video content from AOL and around the web - AOL.com

Can also turn left on a red light at most junctions if safe. (So when going straight on, you have to drop the habit of stopping on the left & position in the right lane so you do not block those wishing to turn left) :unamused:
