Yeah not many - dozen or two tops.

The ones that do come will be from the Asian subcontinent. Prepare yourselves for the real life “killer juggernaut “ headlines.
Can’t discriminate against any interested African contingent.
It could be just what’s needed to bring truck drivers and cyclists together on common ground …literally.
Call it cyclists against racism.
They might have to lose a few for the team.
Meanwhile waiting for a statement from the transport unions stating their full support for the employers’ case.

I dont see it as massive - nowhere near. Its a pittance being spent on job seekers allowance. What do they get a week? 80 quid? 90? You wont pay too many hgv courses on that will you?
So tell us how the scroungers pay for a license. You didnt think this through did you.
So why can’t they find 1 in 30 of them interested in a £1000 a week job ? if the benefit system ain’t that good ?
Just watch the companies renage on their bonus after x months promises after xmas. Never, never trust a Filthy.

Probably for the same reason that if the driver ‘shortage’ was real let alone that desperate don’t you think that the government would have lifted the DCPC requirement and instructed employers and insurance companies to remove all requirements for ‘experience’ in job ads and maybe even exempt retired drivers from the need for a medical or even the DVLA to update their licence categories if proof can be shown of entitlement.
As for UC claimants if you’re going to be a warehouse/yard/site labourer anyway why put yourself in the firing line for being sent down, because a cyclist decided to undertake the truck that you’ve vlounteered to drive for a few extra quid per hour, during a left turn.

And what the food industry tried to do for months on end, unsuccessfully with lobby, the petrochemical behemoths achieve in 2 days with a handful of shut forecourts.
The government just told a particular sector of workers that no matter what, their working conditions and wages can never be allowed to improve through free market competition for labour force. I wonder if there will be any blowback from the class with the realisation that wage suppression of their sector is now government policy.
Well said & no there will be no blow back what so ever from the spineless drivers
There’s always cabbage picking if you can’t get a driving job after Boris opens the floodgates
I’m disappointed but expected it.
There was not even a shortage of fuel deliveries other than to a few petrol stations. The rha and industry created this hysteria fueled by the media that created the panic buying. Now the government has caved in.

The government didn’t cave in to anything it was all a government orchestrated sham using the government controlled media to create the required pretext for an already foregone plan as part of the pretend Brexit.
It’s all about rigging the labour market in favour of employers.
A supposed ‘driver’ shortage which hasn’t created any opportunities for owner drivers who are they trying to fool.
lol

Clever move. Pretend there is a tanker driver shortage to justify a u-turn. There is no tanker driver shortage. BP and Shell etc can easily afford to employ any class one driver they want. If I said 60K a year and 4 on for off what driver would say no? Laughable.

There was a few South African drivers talking about the driver shortage in the UK on a Faceache group a couple of days ago. They were discussing the reports of mega high earnings.
Plenty of drivers from all over Africa earning a pittance compared to here and driving most of our cast off trucks.
Most of them driving on the same side of the road as us, and most living in “Commonwealth” countries, making emigration easier.
Cant drive lorries here though until they’ve taken a car and then LGV test because they can’t exchange their licences.

Are there…Any drivers over there anyway? Poland is short by 120,000 and other European nations have shortages too.
No drivers shortages in Poland , this is only propaganda and Brexiteeres dreams. Just come back from Poland…

The general consensus seems to be, ‘we aint got no drivers’.
Who were all those board members saying the tories are the party of the working man? Utter codswallop.
How predictable… and embarrassing after pinning so much onto an anti imigration agenda.
Guess the question is now what sector is next? Because they done it for HGV drivers they can do it for others.
All those big tough tories “WE DONT NEED EUROPE DO WE GIRLS?!!”
…er…yes…yes we do…
Funny - migration was the only thing most people voted on - now thats torn up. So youve got brexit with all the good bits removed!! Well done!
