Too much tramper kit

switchlogic:
When I did the full time lorry living thing it would take me 4 hours to empty one lorry and set it all up in another one. FOUR HOURS! Thankfully now I’m home most nights my lorry has a fraction of stuff I used to drag about

So it aint just me then. I even went back in this morning to finish off.

Sounds like you need to ditch a few luxuries mate…

I did mate, chucked away nearly all the contents of the side locker.

Kept the dog mask and ■■■■■■ clamps for sentimental reasons.

So you’ve decided to keep the snorkel and the pineapple?

I hope you reset the clock on your weekly rest when you finished

I understand how everyone feels…what annoys me is the uk bosses seem to think their stuff should go in the side lockers…that should be our space, and straps and buckles should have a seperate box, but i suppose that depends on whether you keep the same trailer…in my locker for the last boss, i had to keep 20 odd straps and buckles, plus rubber mats for reels, or pallets which some companies asked for, or get charged for…then tools, light bulbs, etc…luckily i had a trailer box for most of that, but when the trailer got nicked, i had a trailer without one, so a lot of stuff ended up in the cab…using my spaces in the lockers, then decide to get a bakers tray, and kept them in the trailer, a lot of hassle when reversing onto a bay, where you wasnt allowed to enter the warehouse…usually had to drop them on the ground a foot from the bay…was a nightmare when the trailer was loaded to the gunnels…thank god for the top bunk though.

No need mate, I’m off to a week on Tuesday :unamused:

I will maybe get slated by the self righteous and the tacho nazis on here :unamused: , but it wouldn’t matter a ■■■■ if I wasn’t,

I would rather do it leisurely at the weekend in my time, than go in on a morning to do it on a work day, or have to get up a couple of hours earlier at some ungodly hour…because it benefited ME :bulb: , so a bit of a ‘real world’ situation, rather than a ‘theory world’ situation.

Same here ! I’ve got a 4am start tomorrow so rather than finding out at 3:45am my truck is buried behind others I’ve gone in tonight and it’s not buried and I’ve filled tank up also water bottle as well

Got back to the yard about 2 pm my new motor was sat waiting for me to change over to.
Every bloody thing was to pull out, had to wire my fridge up to a new Anderson plug (well my boy did  ) because Merc has stopped putting a 24 v socket next to underbunk drawer (which was to take out and then put back in my old motor where fridge had been…boy again) tv to fix on side of cab and other little jobs.
Anyway by the time I got sorted it was half past 7 :unamused: , and that was with my 2 lads helping me.
The amount of crap I carry around with me is unreal, I have been caught out over the years not having the right gear, so now it looks like I cover every potential eventuality to the point that I just carry too much.
Is it just me or do you other trampers carry far too much gear.

Did not even have time to put my poofy curtains in, so job for the morning.
Worst thing is (well not worst  ) is that I am off next week, so hope it will be kept tidy by dayman…to be fair it usually is .

I have water hoses ,turbo / intetcooler hoses ,belts pulleys ,and more ect too .

Takes me a good 90 minutes from getting back to the yard to bail out of my motor. Although this does include refueling and washing.

I try and stop for half an hour down the road if I can, to bag all my gear up.

Could do it in a fraction of the time if it was my own sole motor, and nobody else ever used it, all I’d be taking out would be my bedding bag, my food bag, water carrier etc.

But that’s not the way the world works anymore, so I take absolutely everything out, with the exception of my seat covers.

I’ve only got a little Polo, and the back seat hasn’t seen the light of day for over 12 months.

The day men/foreigners will have anything away. A bog roll, kitchen towel, I’ve had my spare 5 litres of screenwash robbed,

And as was mentioned before, the second you say, not bloody used this in ages, not going to bother with it anymore, is the day you need the cable ties and gaffer tape.

Unless I’m on hols, nobody ever sleeps in my motor, (although they still manage to use stuff that even I don’t bother with - I’ve never one sat in my passenger seat, but it’s always folded down when I get back in it)

My suggestion has been that they should put deadlocks on the side lockers, and just let the allocated driver have the keys. That way, I could leave loads of gear in it, maybe convert my car back into a car again.

I can have my kit packed,in the time it takes to go through the wash.
I travel light

Ok so can I beginning of week, but I don’t travel light, I was not talking just packing up your clothes on a Mon morning, I meant taking your entire tramping kit from one truck to another when getting a new one., Stuff like clothes, kit to do the job, cab comforts like fridge, microwave, tv, kettle, food drinks, bedding, stuff in drawers and cupboards, and general crap you carry when you live in a truck most of your miserable life. …not just the odd night out in a lay by to have your time off.

You didn’t think that I meant it took me 4 hours to pack my truck up every week did you ? :open_mouth:

That would do my nut in mate, in fact enough to find another job.
I like my own space and my own truck (ok, firms truck before the usual crew pipe up :unamused: ) and I am very arsey if someone messes it up inside and get violent tendencies if my own kit has been ratched through. :smiling_imp:

No…you meant moving house.
All i carry is mashin tackle and bedding, which goes home whenever i do.

I cab hop regularly, so everything I need is in a holdall. I started with a ruck sack, soon ran out of space with that

You know you are carrying to much stuff when you contemplate getting Pickford in to help you move stuff from your old truck to your new one. [emoji1]
