Ah the results of carting hot materials Moose! Some operators used to specify 8mm plate at the rear and 6mm up front on a new body.

lol yes they still do spec 8mm at the rear, there’s no way they would pay for 8mm on a repair job though!
I did one a few months ago that’s had 2 x 6mm wear sheets in from the back since new, when I cut them out the original floor below was unmarked, now its back to 12mm minimum with the replacement sheets fitted
Had the CF done last year for similar reasons, sadly gets to them in time.

A good plan that, having wear plates. The Cravens bodyfloor on my Avatar pic Foden (owned by STB Transport by then of course) got in a terrible state at the rear end (it was around nine years old by then) with the cross members showing through. Every load had to be cleaned out by hand plus the rakes used to get caught in the cracks when on handlay work and that tore the alloy even more. I think that Brock put a new section in and the amount of cr*p underneath the floor was amazing! The trucks of similar age that were just used on dry stone showed no visible signs of wear at all, though the alloy must have been thin at the rear end by that time.

Hi Pete,
Tipper on general aggregates still suffer from the same, sand and stone acts just like a very coarse sand paper. Lime for fields used to be strange as when to lime left the body it used to be aluminium colour around the edges where it had touched the body.
