TD-01 I wish you well in your future efforts. Its a shame but Hanson seem a firm on the decline (at least in this area anyway).
What worried me was the adverts in Commercial Motor that Hanson were advertising for owner drivers AND employed tipper drivers which is a certain clash of priorities.
Perhaps you could start with a 2nd hand truck. I donât think many start with brand new trucks so maybe that is the way to go? The big advantages are that you can go where you like (even working away if you know where to look), go muck shifting or whatever. Also, you wonât have the big finance pressure to drag you back.
I am sorry to hear that it all went ââ â â â upâ for you so quickly,
I would like to know what ânumptyâ of a quarry area manager let you go and order a brand new Hino 8 wheeler and sign up for it when they didnât have the work for it
I think if you are honest you now realise you where going to get nowhere near your ÂŁ2500 âprofitâ a month with those BIG truck payments.
What ever happened to the Hino, did you just chuck the keys back and is it still in Hanson colours
BTW,
if your going for a eight wheeler tipper again you need 30 grand savings in the bank:
20 grand to buy a decent used wagon straight and the remaining 10 grand to run it and keep your head above water
Hanson are a company who treat their customers like [zb] and their suppliers [hauliers] even worse. Their management are team are weak and they are stretched to do their jobs. My friend you are well out of it and I hope you can get up and running again soon with someone who appreciates you.

Nope, tippers aint any good in this area, especially with Hanson.
Im looking at another contract which i have been offered on the mixers with a different firm but im taking my time before i commit myself to it. Clearly the money / work is not good enough on the tippers, a lesson i have learned the hard way, through no fault of my own though.
Its as if they took me on and then realised they didnt have the work for me,
a total lack of communication within the managment, which has cost me time and money!!!
Im relief driving for now, i set my own rates which is good. Im happy just doing this for now while looking into other contracts.

my dad has had no problems with hanson (hes on the mixers) so we are all supprised at how they have treated me.
Hanson have been taken over, so maybe this new firm will replace afew of the managers which has been known to happen with other firms in the past.
He came on here bragging about how he had it all worked out, how daddy was paying for everything, how he was going to become a millionaire and how he knew better than those actually doing it.
He was given figures by Big Truck and told that he hadnât got a hope in hell, along with others, but yet he knew better and carried on anyway. Now itâs all come to an end and reckons it was all Hansonâs fault!!! WTF?
People that donât bother listening to sound advice donât deserve any sympathy.
The old saying âyou can take horse to water but you canât make it drinkâ springs to mind here.

Whatâs with all the sympathy for this guy?

I dont expect sympathy
like i said better to have tryed than to not have tryed at all, and ill be trying again in the future.
I was given figures by HANSON and i didnt expect them to lie did I.
I went to the quarries and got turned away and that happend weekly, whos fault would you say that is then? what an idiot you are. Who was to know hanson would turn down there own haulier at the quarries?

Well, yes hanson messed it up, i could only ever go off what they said, so in my case the contract was a none starter.
However i know of 6 wheeler mixers earning more than that profit and thats with Hanson, although some plans aint making any money. it all depends on where and who you run for.

Its about time you got off your high horse Rob. Fair play he gave it a go and it didnât work.
But at least he had the GUTS to try it and not bleat on about mars bars
If you were given the same figures from Hanson would you give it a go, I doubt it.
Youâre all hot air
So why donât you put up or shut up
Rant over
although I reserve the right to continue ranting at a later stage
Got to agree with Rob here.
Tipper work is and always be for the âblue eyed boysâ, the âinâ crowd get the work when its quiet and the rest have to take the scraps and desperately ring quarys looking for work.
Wouldnt t have been better to buy a motor that was tidy and a few years old etc, and test the water.
And now just to top it off, you are having a go on the mixers, so when are you taking delivery of the new truck for that?
I think that this thread represents our industry quite well.
Mostly decent blokes who all help each other out, with one or two who almost seem to enjoy seeing others come to grief.
OK - so Tarmac duck has been proved correct. Well done.
I still donât understand why he needed to post it on here. Just seems a bit unpleasant and childish to me. OK so people may have warned TD01 he was not going to achieve what he thought he could. But when youâve got Hanson telling you you can, and signing you up for a new motor - add a bit of optimism and enthusiasm and I can see why TD01 thought heâd be OK.
I believe TD01 would have got around to mentioning it (not that he needed to) but I imagine heâs got more pressing things on his mind at the moment. Think it would have been nice to have allowed him to mention it when he was ready though.

Iâve heard some contradictions in my time âŚ
Donât see a contradiction in this case. I donât think Tarmac duck ever warned TD01. In public at least. If he did by some other means then I apologise.
I was referring to those who enjoy kicking a man when heâs down, and you know that.
OK the guy made a mistake. I have and Iâm sure you have.
To quote Tarmac duck from another thread: -
let him or her who has never made a mistake or been subject to a bit of bad luck cast the first stone
Sorry to hear it didnt work out. My advice is dont sign no contract, stay independent and when the work does go quiet you can pick up the phone and carry for another quarry / plant. Ive got a sleeper cab / weigher and a semi-bulk body so if worst does come to the worst I can put a Quid a mile load on (coal, ash, etc) to keep the wheels turning.
what a shame for you, just try again or maby go for a artic licence, more money and they are crying out for experienced artic drivers, you now have some experience on your side, just try the artic good things are always around the corner. Good Luck!
i asked a few questions pre hino about te consitincey of work and yo told me you had it sussed i had a buissness with 14 wagons and ended up on a pickup thems the breacks get over the shortterm setbacks and ride the storm you can take whats comining you re way and get over it . 5 years time try again all the best stephen think before you act bud just try what you want from a diffrent angle or divesify i never i went down like a tonne of
tatties live n learn beaware of the market hope you get over this . and dont let the grind you down
