AH yes!
I also have been tempted, you should have seen it before they toned down the paintwork .
It still looks a bit look at me chase me,for me.

Looks like a mobile knocking shop.

104k for a v8? You’d need to be knocking out £1500 a day to justify that IMO.

I must admit, I am a Renault fan.

Over the years I have had 6 Magnums, not had any big issues with them
great cab, especially the new range 2008 to 2013.

There is a 12 plate Magnum 500 with warranty till 2016 for sale in
Commercial Motor, £42,000 + VAT.

Think it is the Dover area.

Yes,I seen it.
I also like a magnum.
Oh sorry you mean the French one.
It is tempting volvo running gear but with room and a ride that won’t loosen the fillings"
Is it good value at 42k?
As it’s no longer in production how steep will the depreciation be?

Iv heard a lot of lads getting good mpg out of the merc’s ,

For me Scania is better put together than a Volvo or DAF and I think the Scania retarder is an amazing bit of kit but it’s all at a high price tag compared to the other two.
I’ve not driven the new DAF As-Tronic or the new 2 pedal Scania Opyicruise so can’t coment on that. In my opinion the ishift of the Volvo is the best Auto box on the used market. A very good friend of mine has tried the new DAF & reckons their new AsTronic is on par with Volvo’s ishift.

IF I were in your boots I’d either keep my current truck for another year to give the new generation aoto boxes a chance to hit the used market or, I’d go and price up new and see how it compares with buying used. They all come with good term warranties on them these days and the peice of mind that offers added to the taxrelief a new truck will bring would make it worth considering.

On the other hand, you’ve had your FH for 5 years so you must have developed a repationshipo with your Volvo workshop in that time. Main dearler workshops and how they treat me is way up the list of priorities for me.

Can’t coment on other makes because I have no experience of them. It’ll be intersting to see what you end up with.

Ive had an 06 plate P270 since new and the only faults were a failed centre drive shaft bearing and a cracked injector sleeve letting diesel into the coolant. I’m quite surprised at how cheap the parts are sometimes, a set of 4 brake pads £68. I bought a set for my car that were dearer and about a fifth of the size :open_mouth: . even a brake disk is only £87 I also find it easy to work on, all the parts are well engineered IMHO … Dont let sneaky dealers overcharge you for stuff though … a brake chamber is £220 but you can get a service kit for it for £25  but they dont tell you that . I priced a new chassis recently and was shocked at how expensive they are now though. But my 06 seems to have retained its value quite well judging by what I had been offered for it when I was looking

In my experience and talking to other owners,I would say that volvo probably make the best truck in Europe.
I have my truck on a service agreement with the local dealers, they could be worse but they could be a lot better.
But, I just fancy trying a merc mp3 I can’t stretch to a mp4 ex demo as they are around the 70k mark, and I don’t want finance.
I’m suffering with a lot of neck pain and I think it may be the awfull ride in my fh.
I have noticed that the newer fh seems to have a longer spring on the cab suspension than my present truck,so maybe the ride is better ?
If I ever get the time I shall be checking some out locally, but,it will depend on what kind of service deal etc I am offered.
The two makes of truck that I shall not be looking at are DAF and MAN that’s for sure.

Truckntrailerman.
As an owner driver that does not have anyone else drive my truck apart from servicing,I probably only do ten months in a year, with holidays and long weekends etc.
So contract hire will not work for me,I would have to work all the time!
■■■■ that :stuck_out_tongue: but thanks for the offer.

I have put a deposit on a recycled uboat,it’s a 60 plate mp3 merc.
I know realise just how much I have become attached to my old volvo.
Over the years I have gotten things just how I like it, but it is a bit cramped in here.
That’s what I keep telling myself in moments of doubt. :unamused:

We have them all in our fleet:
XF 105 460/480 SC/SSC
CF 480
Stralis Active Space 450/560
MAN TGX XLX 440
Scania R series 440
Merc MP3/MP4 460/450
Volvo FH 460/480
Premium DXi440/460

All of them are decent modern trucks to drive IMHO and I don’t “dislike” any of them if handed the keys.
Driving a Premium DXi440 last night with 917k on the clock (Being “decommissioned” this month due to more MP4 Merc’s arriving) and it drove like a Swiss watch with not a rattle to be heard.
If asked to choose it would be the MAN TGX for me.

MP3 Merc Megaspace you won’t go far wrong I don’t think,
“health to enjoy” :exclamation: :exclamation:

Thank you.
The salesman actually told me that the Irish love the mercs on account of the smooth ride as the rounds in Ireland are so poor:-)

the mp3 aint popular here. the worst of the actros where built in 2008 (last mp2) and they need a clutch every 250k and some blow engines. funny what you here from other drivers merc electrics are bad blahblah. my mp2 has never given any electrical bother. a good machine i think.

I hope so
The only bother I had with my volvo was electrics.
