Those were the days

truckfing:
I’ve changed a few myself over the years but hopefully I just take pictures of them now. The odd thing I find about these 3 is that the o/s 2nd axle has copped it every time, or do you put your worn tyres on there to run them off ?

At least in those days of the post war era through to the 70’s you had good transport cafes with decent food for drivers on most of the main transport routes.Dwindled down to just a few now with snack vans, some of which are good, but its eat in the cab or shiver at the hatch.
Cheers Dave.

yeah we all remember those truck stop cafes that were dotted all over britain throughout the 60s n 70s,up at 6 in the morning,2 hours down the road then stop off enroute for your breakfast and a chat with the other drivers, very sad to see most of em long gone now, these places wernt just your grub, they were also trading spots for work boots, overalls, gloves, coats, hats, diesel, cigarettes, damaged goods that fell off your loose load lol, places where you met up with your old pals from the opposite ends of the country, these will be sadly missed n remembered by many, one of my earliest memories as a child was the overnight stops with my old man on the billingsgate lorry park in 1974/75,no matter where you travelled from there always seemed to be another driver there you knew or someone who knew your mate, brilliant lorry park in its time with a security man in the hut watching your wagon, you could nip off for a drink or a bit of grub if you dint have none with you,not sure if billingsgate still exists but i remember that spot like yesterday.

1950s Era Newcastle Quayside.

Sammyoposite, Remember any of these old motors, I cut this out of our local paper. Regards Larry.
