This has probably been asked a thousand times

mac12:
Is there something wrong with training when a new driver has to come on here to ask about how many hours he can work and doesn’t no the difference between driving hours and working hours. What happens with all the new drivers that don’t use this site they must be driving round without a clue.

No, the fact that some new drivers find the regulations difficult has no bearing on the quality of HGV training, I’m sure there are plenty of trainers who would be happy to arrange several days of training to ensure a new driver is fully conversant with what he/she needs to know.

The big question has to be “are new drivers willing to pay for it”, training companies are businesses and like all other commercial businesses need to make profit, and that means that someone has to pay for the training.

When I first started driving lorries when Noah was still a boy, I learned about the rules by asking other drivers, that’s what happens now except that now it’s done on the internet and everyone sees, nothing has changed except the method of asking questions.

The EU had the opportunity to rectify this with the initial dcpc module 2 theory but they decided to make it a multi choice on scenarios rather than a test on the regs

Some of the MAN I have used go to break as soon as you stop so watch for that

Most will come when you start driving & you will understand them better

Is this vehicle related or just ■■■■■■ misery?

A MAN that goes on break as soon as you stop?

Sorry, just couldn’t resist

Just read the last bit, are you that awesome behind the wheel? PM me your number

FTFY

Many EU countries have tests on the regs as part of the initial module, it is the UK that doesn’t.

i would be willing to pay for the information from a training center to make sure i was fully aware on the current legistlation but like others have said alot wont be , and also when theres a large forum with alot of drivers already in the know why pay when you can just ask

always nice that most are able to answer without the expectation of a few who expect you to know it all without been told it!

so thats why i asked the question

I got that big book of theory questions before I did anything, which has all the hours stuff in - nobody mentioned it in my training, lots of the info we have to just find out from books, forums, google etc.

Never forget to switch your tacho onto rest though, like I did last week then realised after 35 mins I still needed a 45  (Luckily it didn’t matter too much)
Not sure about other tachos but we get fair warning of a break needed - it flashes at you 15 mins before a 4.5 hrs is up, and also if you forget to switch onto ‘other work’ or ‘drive’ it does it for you when you start moving. (We never use POA mode)

So, no need to pay for the info, it’s out there, just takes some brain-bending before it all sinks in

Hope you don’t think I’m getting at you it just seems bad that so many new drivers don’t no what they are doing.

Do you think it would have been better to do as Rog put and have a test on the regs or would that just make things to hard?

i dont thiink a test is needed but just to go over and clarify that the info has sunk in and the basics are grasped, a mate of mine has been driving a year and he says he still looks on goole now and again to check up on certain things

He does say he hasn’t started driving yet…

I didn’t understand it all when I started (but the horse used to help out  ). As has been said - if you don’t know ask someone who does. The only difference is that on here, instead of a quiet word you shout it out to all and sundry…

il take it as it comes and someone will help explain
