6 points in 8 weeks …nuff said…stick to the limits…stuff the morons behind you…and also if your hourly paid then your prob taking home more money than tossed saled flying off home in the distance
You are doing the right thing sticking to the limits, the limits are set by the highways agency and are there to be adhered to like it or not why should you risk your licence and livelihood for these idiots.
Just take a trip on the A14 to Felixstowe or the A34 to Southampton from the M40 and see the antics of the so called “professional” drivers on the limiter @ 56mph and not a minute to spare is it any wonder we get the bad press reports we get, I wouldn,t let some of these idiots loose with a wheelbarrow let alone a 44 tonne truck the way they drive!
Something to think about as one guy said when things go wrong “YOU” will be the one in court and could possibly be facing charges of dangerous driving if you are involved in an accident.
If you have the idiots who want to pass then let THEM find a way past never mind pulling in to laybys just to let them through they know the law (or should do) as well as you.
If another driver can do the run 5mins quicker than you let the boss give them the run instead.
You are in full control of the vehicle so the responsibility if things going wrong is YOURS no one elses.
I had an occasion a couple of weeks ago on the Telford to Bridgnorth rd and as you say I had a idiot from the Co-oP in a 4 wheeler with an artic behind him trying to push me (I was doing 40 on the S/C) and cos he couldn,t get past he was tailgating me and then not one but 2 cars tried to overtake and due to him being up my back bumper they suddenly came upon cars coming towards them and no escape route because they couldn,t “bunnyhop” (i.e. pass one then pull in the gap and pass the other) because this buffoon (the co-op wgaon) left no gap for overtaking vehicles to pull in to (that rule is in the highway code incidentally) a fine piece of “professional driving” by an absolute plonker!
As one of the posts says what is the point of chasing up to a bend at 50mph or more and then having to stand on the brakes when you find the bend tightens up 1/2 way round then we have the scenario of radio reports again telling us a lorry has lost it,s load or worse gone over and possibly killed some poor innocent person just going about their daily business.
That is when you find out whose side the boss is on and rest assured it certainly won,t be yours!
An old boss of mine (sadly now deceased and an ex driver himself) used to say no load is so important as to warrant an accident to get it there on time and it is better to be 10 minutes late in this world than 10 years early for the next one, cos I ain,t met anyone yet who has come back and said it is better than this world!

Now I will admit I am relatively inexperienced, only a class 2 driver and been on the roads for just over a yearWhat do you mean■■? Only a class 2 driver.
We’ve all been there and done it, it’s just that some, like the example you gave, can’t remember so long ago.
Just over a year■■?, we’ve all been there as well, and once again, some people can’t remember that long back either.
Exactly my thoughts.
A class two driver is the same as a class one driver, except without a bend in the middle. You’re a driver smile!. End of.
I find it hilarious that I often speak to blokes driving rigids who, in the first sentence of a conversation, have to say that ‘they are normally on the artics’, or ‘look at this f@?$ing puddle jumper they’ve given me today - I want my artic back.’
It’s almost like they think you will think they have a smaller ■■■■ or something because they are driving a rigid!!
Anyway to the point of the thread. You drive at the limit. Stuff what other people want you to do.
If every driver was as careful to obey the limits as you, then perhaps companies would allow sufficient time to get where you’re going, set the rates for the job accordingly and PAY THE DRIVER a decent wage for doing so.
I do realise that lots of drivers work for companies that don’t care about their driver’s safety. And I have sympathy for these guys. I try and let them past whenever I can. Every day I thank my lucky stars that I work for a company that want the load delivered safely and in good condition even if it is 30 minutes late.
I had a routine 6 monthly assessment a few weeks ago. Our driving assessor is a top bloke with 40ish years experience in the industry. He’s driven more miles reversing out of lay-bys than I’ve done going forward!!
He was telling me that as of now, DHL are going to start taking disciplinary action against any driver caught breaking traffic laws. He said ‘the company wants a professional image and part of that image is that we don’t want our wagons tearing about flat out on single carriageways’.
Fair comment I suppose.
You stick to the limit mate it is your license not theirs that will get done. I always stick to the limit and if I get some idiot behind me trying to hassle me I slow down to 35 for a couple of miles just to rile them a bit more and just smile sweetly at them when they do go past. Then a couple of miles up the road whom do you come up behind but the fool who passed you so it doesn’t really get them any further by overtaking, often dangerously
Last year I got 3 points and £250 fine and costs for doing 46 on the A41 which ever so slightly annoyed me because I normally keep to the limits but was speeding up for a dual carriageway.
So now, I set the limiter on 44 and that’s the fastest I go - but I do try and pull in to let people past, or on a straight stretch I indicate left and slow down so that other vehicles can pass.
The problem is the blanket 40 mph limit which was set when it took a lorry two weeks to stop. Some sc should be 20mph for hgvs and some should be 60 - but the government ain’t going to be changing the limits for us. Can you imagine the headlines? ‘Killer trucks speed limit raised’
I try, i say try as i got a ticket just before xmas to stay below 44/45mph. I do go along at 56mph on dc’s but im never in a rush as much as some of these idiots. If i catch someone up doing 40mph fair enough i hold back, even more since the accident i recently had.
You are in the right.

Having done a few weeks for DHL through the agency I used to work for I would suggest that they take a good look at their run schedules as I don’t believe the runs I did for them were possible without speeding.
I think you have a valid point for many sites, Willy.
Which depot were you working out of? I’d be surprised if it was Godmanchester.
When DHL bought Exel, most of us Exel employees expected that all our ways would be brought in-line with DHL operating procedure.
How wrong we were. At least on the contract logistics side (or ‘consumer network’), as we are now called
In reality, the case was that DHL basically said, ‘You Exel chaps are good at what you do, please implement your ways into DHL and improve things for us.’
It seems to me that most DHL sites have yet to see as much of an impact as ours has, not least because 75% of our senior managers are ex-Exel.
But I think given time, the culture of DHL will change for the better at all of the depots.

if only the world was covered in rose coloured petals and was so perfect… according to you lot it is
i like to peg along a bit… on the a66 when i go through appleby and the other villages i slow down to whatever is a safe speed, maybe 40 maybe 30 but get out of the villages and my speed crepts up again and then when im on the dual carridge ways its back to full guns at 56mph.
i dont make guestures at anybody.
i dont flash my lights at anybody
i dont make racial comments at anybody… i just get on with it.
i like to think i use my advanced driving by being a c + e driver ( or class 1 ) to make judgement when its safe to speed along abit and when it isnt.
how many of you are being really honest or just jumping on the rightous bandwagon.
You stick to what you’re doing, don’t risk your license for anyone!
I try to stick to the speed laws- I have to admit to creeping above now and then but mostly stick to the law-it’s there for good reason.
You stick to what your doing, its not you who has made the laws but it will be you who gets punished for breaking them. Stay at the speed limit, relax and enjoy the drive.
If you need some reasons for staying at the speed limit have a look at the BBC website at people jailed for being involved in driving accidents…its frightening!! These people who tailgate and try to ‘bully’ others out of the way really don’t relise how close to jail they can be if there is a mistake made.
It would be better if we all put a sign on the back of wagon which would say
"IF YOU HAVE ANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING MY SPEED TAKE DETAILS OF ROAD, MY SPEED ,MY REG AND PHONE TONY AT DOWING STREET COS HE IS THE BOSS)
It’s your licence,so stuff the other prats trying to bully you into speeding up. Too many so called"professional drivers " drive on the limiter no matter what class of road they are on. Stick to the speed limits buddy, keep your licence clean and ■■■■ the rest of them. Personally speaking,I like nothing better on a nice day than a leisurely drive from Stoke to Spalding and back. No motorway, not much dual carriageway. Lets you enjoy the day a bit more without geting stressed up. Leave the stress to the speed merchants. If you get concerned about a queue building behind you then just pull in when you can and let them past. Otherwise, well it’s their choice if they want to overtake.
Lets just take it easy out there folks…no job is worth killing yourself or someone else over
spose really we should all stick religiously to the speed limits even on the best of the A roads then let the general public force a change in the law that says you must not exceed 40 mph even on a road where it would be perfectly safe to do 50?
i read something a few months ago that said the uk is the only nation in the world to have differing speed limits for cars and wagons, don’t know if that’s true?

It isn’t, look here, at Wikipedias World Speed Limits page.
think the point was on A roads such as we have here, i.e 60 for cars 40 for us.
It’s weird when you think about it.
A 40mph limit is imposed on national speed limit s/c roads presumably as we cannot stop as effectively as cars, yet on a road where a car is limited to 40 and there is surely more potential danger we can tool along at the same speed.
Also take what is effectively a rigid, bung some seats in and call it a bus or a coach and you can barrel along with 50 or 60 people on board, at greater speed.
Oh your all so good on here are’nt you all
So I suppose you all stick to the 50 mph on dual carriageways as well?
Yeah right
I know the limit on single carriageways is 40 but it really ■■■■■■ me off.I do 50 if the road is good if its bumpy and narrow and windy I’ll do 40 or slower if needs be.
I always stick to the 30s and 40s in built up areas but I really get hacked off when I have to follow some ■■■■ doing 35mph all the way up the A41 from the M54 all the way up to Whitchurch and another one from just after whitchuch all the way up to Chester like I had to the other day,or on the A5 from Shrewsbury to Oswestry for instance.
If I get caught I get a fine, dont judge people for getting annoyed for wanting to get past someone pootling along at 40.lets have a bit of common sense, dont all jump on the’ I dont do anything wrong bandwagon’
I’m a tipper driver…nuff said
only joking,
we have a strict 30mph speed limit on the site i’m working on.
They WILL issue warnings for 31 or 32
Mileage paid. Saying nowt.
