The Mrs just don't get it

Harry Monk:
Sure, there are some bad employers out there, but equally there are drivers out there going for jobs who just haven’t got a clue.

Just had this at a place I work.

After starting 4wks ago, Guy threw in the towel on Friday afternoon saying he aint gonna be in Monday.

He said he can’t deal with all the traffic and the drops. Errr it is London Multidrop. WTF did you think the job involved?!

Checked his contract and sure enough no notice required until 1 months service so timing was possibly no coincidence.

Manager totally dropped in it for Monday morning.

And when you have the misfortune to meet that sort at an RDC, they tell you about all the jobs they’ve had, and it never seems to be their fault as to why they left/got sacked. :unamused: :unamused:

Years ago, at a firm I was working for, this guy came to do day work/occasional night away, as opposed to tramping/occasional nights at home. The day work was mostly concrete flooring/blocks or agricultural bulk such as potatoes, tramping was Tautliners or tilts. With all this explained the guy was happy enough to start, first load off blocks into London, bought about a point blank refusal to go, the guy wanted tautliner work, the boss explained that that usually involved multiple nights away, but as it happened the boss had a multidrop home counties run on a tautliner(a day run), so offered it to the guy, who said cant get round that in a day, at that point he was asked to leave :unamused:

We’ve all seen it before. The new guy who just won’t last 5 minutes. At my last place the new guy said after a week “■■■■ me the wages here are ■■■■, I’m going to talk to the boss and get me a raise”, he never showed up for week two. Like he couldn’t multiply 5x£100/45 before he started. He’s had 6 driving jobs in since that I know about…

For myself it’s like this:

I’m 25 years old, and working in the music industry. It’s what I’ve always wanted to do and I’m loving it. But I can often end up away for weeks, if not months without seeing home or at a push swinging by home while I’m en route to somewhere (which often means throwing a load of smelly clothes in the washing machine l, sleeping in a proper bed for 5 hours and annoying my neighbors by parking the lorry on the road). I was in a relationship which we both decided should end. We’re still friends but if anything I felt horrible about tying the other person up with my busy lifestyle.

I’m saving for my own house and not far off a deposit. I think once I’ve got the back of my own property broken I’d probably look at a long term relationship again but until then I’m young free and single! Why not enjoy myself while I can, there’s plenty of time in life to settle down with someone and have a couple of kids but for now I’m more than happy in the single life with absolutely no ties to anyone and anything. Just up and go on another adventure whenever possible.
