The Long Haul

the bit that stuck in my mind was when he was crossing a stream in the octopus and got the front n/s wheel jammed between two rocks . he then took the wheel off without jacking it up and drove it out . i was crying with laughter at the performance . ■■■■ good entertainment , dave

What a load of tripe that was, apart from the wheel changing scene which was a laugh there was the scene were he was returning from Glasgow to Liverpool and he emerged from the Mersey Tunnel into London Rd ,must have lost his map. What about the roping and sheeting?,Bewick would have a fit if he saw that .I used to see the old octopus on the M6 it was one of Leylands own fleet that ran spares to Brum,it had on the front Diana of the Long Haul.Cheers TED.

And latterly, the same wagon was owned by Harrisons from Holmes. It caught fire on the M62 when a back hub set the platform and load of hessian-wrapped meat alight. The fire was so intense (mainly from the fat on the meat) it twisted the chassis and the wagon ended up being scrapped. The engine was salvaged and used as the motive power for the irrigation setup in Harrisons’ glasshouses. For all I know it could still be there.
