Its the classic commercial show at Gaydon on the 8th & 9th of June. How many of Harry’s fans are coming to Gaydon.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Dave, I’ll only be there in spirit I’m away on a few days holiday over those
dates, unknown to me my wife had booked us a breakaway as a belated
Birthday present, Gaydon is a “show” I’d love to do,but it’s a no no this year.
thanks harry, long retired.

Tracy is away for a weeks holiday with her family until the 8th, but still says she is coming to Gaydon on the 9th. I will be fetching her back from Tenby on the 8th, so I will put about 350 miles on the clock.
We have a couple of holidays booked later, one in July and the other in August. Hope you have a good break. I look forward to going away, but after about four days I start to look forward to coming home again and getting back among my own stuff.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
I hope to get a few long weekends away with the caravan when things get
dried up a bit, there’s nothing worse than sitting around in a tin box when
the rain is rattling off the top, bloody awful year so far and I thought we
are supposed to be going through a phase of global warming, if we are It’s
certainly giving me a miss.
thanks harry, long retired.

I think it will be better this year Harry, at least the two recent bank holidays haven’t been bad. We had a lovely day here yesterday and Saturday. Today has been wet, but it sounds better for later in the week and into June.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Just hoping for a decent spell of weather, the caravan is hardly getting used,
if things don’t improve I think I’ll get rid of it i’ts nearly as cheap to use hotels
nowadays caravan site fees are becoming astronomical, there are still a few
reasonable ones pricewise but they’re miles from anywhere and the facilities
are crap, I like to be on a bus route and handy for a decent sized town rarely
use the car when I’m away preferring to be able to pop in and out of the pub
for a drink and a meal it suits the missus that way so everybody’s happy, also
we prefer adult only parks, we spend most of our lives looking after the kids/
kids, just nice to get a break away from them for a few days once in a while.
thanks harry, long retired.

Hi Harry,
A mate of mine bought a camper and uses it quite a bit, as both his wife and him have health issues which have curtailed their work.
He says it can cost anything up to £20 a night to park on a site, which is OK if its got hook up etc, but it just goes to show that, as you say it isn’t cheap anymore. I can appreciate that you want peace and quiet away from kids. We try to avoid family pubs or restaurants, because half of the parents let the kids run around the tables and don’t correct them. Some little kids are well behaved, but the parents of others can’t be bothered to keep an eye on theirs.
Cheers Dave.

I think the “cost” thing applies to so many things, H. People always seem to jump on the bandwagon whenever some recreational activity becomes popular.
Years ago it was a cheap holiday to hire a narrowboat, or even buy one. Then boating became popular so they increased all the prices. Same thing with caravans- we used to have many weeks and weekends in ours but as it became more & more popular prices went through the roof. We sold our last one when we realised that we could get B&B with a sea view for a couple of quid less that it cost to take the caravan.
Since becoming single I usually foist myself on my offspring or take off in the little van with a camping cooker & a blow-up mattress.

hiya,
I did at one time have a static caravan which was sited at Glasson Dock
the site fees became prohibitive, the last year I had it we only used it
for three weeks over the season, that was my doing I know but at over
£2,000 a year site fees, insurance and gas, electric and on that site a
payment to Lancaster City Council which I couldn’t understand it being
only a ten months site, loved the place but in my case not good value.

I hope you don’t take any other blow up equipment with you Casey.

Hi lads,   when I last went camping, it was £2 for the week, just had a brain wave :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: what if you had a caravan with no chassis or wheels, but attached to a ballon, you could have a small engine with a propellor, and a anchor for tying to a tree or bridge. one problem when they used the toilet for a number two,    people would think ,   that the birds were getting too big for their boots! Splatter

Hi Norm,
Last Saturday evening two hot air balloons came up the other side of the valley from here. Quite rare to see them this way. They seemed to go as far as the Harp Inn at Old Radnor. Perhaps they wanted a
basket meal !!
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Would that be a “hot air” balloon Norm.
thanks harry, long retired.

More likely they would go for a chinese,   " Birds Nest Soup"

Norman Ingram:

They wouldn’t get a Chinese around here Norm, they haven’t been serving chips until a couple of years ago, and birds nest soup, no chance, most of the birds are Cuckoo’s. Try getting one of their nests in a soup bowl.
Cheers Dave.

You weren’t as crackers as all the blokes working on the farms and building sites who were out in the wet as well as the cold. No cabs on tractors in those days, and a lot of them weren’t even on a tractor.
You don’t see so many people crippled up with arthritis and rheumatism nowadays from working in the wet.
Cheers Dave.

Oh’ but I did see the flip side of the coin Dave a few early years spent
in a very wet coal mine and it didn’t get much colder than fishing off
Iceland in midwinter so lorry driving was a doddle for me.

Yep, did remember you telling us about those days Harry. My uncle who is now 87 years old was a Bevin boy in the war and often says that the miners used to laugh at them for being frightened when they heard the cracking sounds from above whilst underground.
Cheers Dave.

It’s whats called the “weight coming on” (and there is plenty) it does
make you jump in your early days as a pit lad but after a while you
don’t notice it, great set of lads to work with.

Yes Harry,my uncle has told me quite a bit of his time in the pits. He was at Burslem to start with and lodged in the same street as Stanley Mathews lived,he then went to Rhosmaen colliery near Wrexham, but has often said that Burslem was the better place out of the two. Stan Mathews used to speak to him and his mate, but apparently was a quiet bloke who just went about his business in his own wy.
Cheers Dave.
