Hiya,
You nippers put years on me, in 1963 I was 27 and had more than likely just delivered
your baby milk to your nearby corner shop, or the Woodbines for the schoolkid’s.
thanks harry, long retired.

Aye Harry I was driving this fine MK5 AEC, In 1963, 28 & raring to go, The good old days down the smoke, Every one looking for a return load met up on Tower Hill, They were the days no red tape, & the crack was allways good Eh, But the years are flying by now & how things have changed, Mind you the Single Malts are still the same, Just a bit dearer, Regards Larry.

Hiya,
Only ever got to drive a Mk5 solo having driven the older Mk3 with a drawbar I did
enjoy my short spell with the 5 and it would have made a cracking “pup dragger”.
thanks harry, long retired.

Those were the days, when you could just pull up on the side of any road in London and nobody would blink an eye as long as you weren’t parked too close to a junction or a pedestrian crossing. That was before they invented those silly yellow lines & blokes in peaked caps distributing tickets!

Hiya,
Never got my hands on a two sticker, Telling porkies GOM I did once move a
Scania Vabis around the yard that had two sticks would’ve liked that motor.

Speaking of two stickers, This one had that type of gearing, It used to go well, running down to Corby for bagged slag, It belonged to one of my cousins, Regards Larry.

Nice one Larry. I hauled a lot of slag from South Wales, mainly bulk, but did do some bagged as well, which I preferred, as they were only one cwt bags and easy to throw off by hand.
Cheers Dave.

Aye Dave there was plenty of slag to shift in those days, I did a lot of bagged loads from Scunthorpe, But allways bulk from Corby, A lot of the farms where the bags were delivered to were rip tips into the spreader, A rotten job to say the least, but It kept us old drivers employed, Happy days, Regards Larry.

The bagged slag I delivered to farms Larry, were lift off and stack job which I didn’t mind as one cwt was nothing when I was young. The bulk was up the ramp and tip into the spreader, which was a slow boring job, waiting for the spreader driver to spread the load at 10 cwt to the acre.
I wouldn’t mind the hanging about now, but I just wanted to get out of the field and get another load.
Cheers Dave.

I think the cab type of slag would be slightly less dirty Harry, but only just.
Cheers Dave.
