I worked as a waitress for many years before being a driver yep have plenty of stories some places yep I wold eat & defo no to some
Not just the food prep but some of the clean up afterwards lack of dishwashers so had to wash by hand water not changed very often as had to carry downstairs etc 1 day the meat came in so bad it al had to be thrown out & more brought in & defrosted quick
Have delivered to food places at times when doing fridge work some wouldnt touch as had to wait to deliver then into wear-house to be checked before going into freezer
I delivered an electric pallet truck to a Chinese food superstore in the Midlands a while ago…I felt sick when I left, they where all eating breakfast in the store room with raw food uncovered smoking, coughing and sneezing and when they opened the big fridge the smoke that came out was not from the cold it was from the three guys in there with ■■■■ hanging out their gobs and ash everywhere.
That said they where very friendly and polite and I lashed the box of noodles they gave me
I worked for Brakes on agency doing Pickering, Helmsley and York Turdsay and Thursdays and Wakefield area Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Makes me laugh when you read on the menu, “homemade” what a load of ■■■■■■■■ most places use the same supplier just some place would charge £3 more for their, “homemade cottage pie” or “slow cooked lamb shank” (that comes to your table 5 mins after ordering) than the pub around the corner that uses the same supplier
I found that the posh places had the worst kitchens and you’d be lucky if they parted with a ■■■■ never mind some grub for us where as the smaller, cheaper places always gave you a bacon or sausage sarnie or something for your graft.
I quite enjoyed it the only place I tended to worry about were the nut house next to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield where the patients would follow you around in their own little world or just stare straight through you, delivering there did ■■■■ me up sometimes
I always laugh at the cakes sold in service stations; They all have the signs “baked in store today.” Bloody liars. I deliver to several different of the bakeries that make them for them, and often meet the van drivers loading up the pain raisins etc for lying garages.
One of Londons’ top stores says the cakes in their cafe are made in store. I suppose their customers wouldn’t be so keen if they knew their croissants were made in Park Royal.

You can’t expect much from food outlets that do “main meals from £3.99” though, can you?
Yeah my mate at work always recommends places that do 2 meals for a tenner or such places, how lucky his wife must feel, I’d rather go out once every month than every week and eat a quality meal.
My sister in law likes to go to these all you can eat chicken things at a brewers fayre, it’s about £6.99 each, the quality of the food is disgusting, there standard menu is poor nevermind a all you can eat crap holes where your packed in a cattle shed being fed.
The Brewers, Toby’s and the like are alright if you want a cheap feed and a pint, ive done it many a time on a N/O, dive in no frills, come away fed and watered for around a 10er.
The good thing about chains like that too is you know the food is gonna be ■■■■ quality from Perth to Penzance

I wouldn’t say a carvery at Toby’s is ■■■■ quality.

Yeah I agree with Steve I think a Toby Carvery is about 7/10, the meats are good, veg can be hit and miss, gravy ALWAYS too runny. Out of a Toby and a brewers fayre it’d be Toby every time, Beefeater are alright too, surprising as it’s part of whitbread like brewers.
I used to work for a vending company who made their own meals to buy from the vending machines. The head chef used to always be playing with his tackle and many a time was seen picking his arse and rolling the contents between his fingers before sniffing his fingers and then carrying on preparing the food.
That chef also told me he knew someone who worked at a major bread company who would regularly be sick into the mix on a sunday morning after a heavy nights drinking.
My mate is chinese and his family own a takeaway, never call them yellow or split links on a satdy night ,some of the stuff he has told me is unreal, there is a bloke who go,s in every weekend [■■■■■■ up]and gives them grief ,i cant look at this bloke in the face knowing what he eats every weekend
^^^^ absolutely! One piece of advice I gave my kids as they were growing up was “never screw around with the person who’s bringing you food or drink. At least not until you’ve received it”.
I used to deliver chicken to South London branches of a well known fried chicken chain, it was night drops where you let yourself in. Some of those were quite grim, and a few of them had to store all their rubbish inside the shop for a week, it did not smell too good by the time it was bin day.
Is it true that you can get done if you dump any packaging waste like shrink wrap, in a public litter bin? Something to do with it being trade waste and not civic or something like that…
many year’s ago when I was a lad I was in the army and on kitchen dutie’s washing pans and the chef came in asked for one of them great big pots and the only one had been sitting in the sink for hour’s and stunk, I asked him what he wanted it for and started to clean it he said don’t bother and went on to make a curry in it ive never eaten a curry since and never will dirty b~s~#rd
