This was taken by me on 15.05.2012.
Was suprised to see both the trailer and unit still in use, but rumour has it that these are all being replaced and withdrawn very soon.
Hello truckerjames123
Thankyou for that photo. Yes, the rumour is true. They basically decided to keep them due to the fact that they where only a year old when WAD took over in 2005.
Its supricing how many old Stobarts are still nocking about. There two Scania 4 53 reg drawbars at Carlisle which are still in the old livery and still doing runs to Crown in Carlisle.
Kindest regards

I’ve commented before about still seeing those two oldies around Carlisle. Thinking about it, I wonder if it’s to do with weights going into Crown. For those who don’t know, it’s basically at the far end of a housing estate. Now the two old 53’s are only 4x2s and pulling twin wheeled trailers (Max weight 32t perhaps?) where as the newer ones are 6x2s and pulling tri-axle trailers (44t?).

Cheers mate, the weights were half a guess, I know 4 axle rigid’s are at 32t so I kind of assumed a Drawbar would work on the same levels, and 44t is just the largest on UK roads currently.
