From next Monday this is to be one of the 7 hour modules!
Makes sense.
2014 mentality of anyone in a suit also means they’ll resist such pressures this time around tooth and nail.
Let battle commence.

It will require “skill and judgement” indeed if that’s Birling Gap they’re going towards… With half the cliff fallen away of late and all.

The same thing will happen, that happened when the HGV licences came in. Driver Training schools will spring up, because of the shortage of drivers, and wages will go up. It might mean a whole new phase in haulage, whereas hauliers will have to rise their rates for customers to cover the cost of rising costs including drivers wages, which should have happened years ago.
That’s not my experience of what happened when HGV licences came in, I was working as apprentice in building trade at time, co I was employed at had 1 wagon. but all 30 brickies, joiners, plumbers et al
all got HGV licence under grandfather rights claiming that they drove it on a regular basis, boss just signed everyone’s form who asked.
You sure about the shortage
I’m not seeing many adverts recruiting full timers - so does that mean there is going to be an enormous demand on agency staff come next week?
Basically no…
You’ve maybe not seen many adverts but have you noticed how many motors are double manned recently so unless there’s a lot of hand balling to be done in my opinion there’s a raft of drivers learning the ropes, keep your eyes open drive

The deadline day will come and go and we won’t notice any difference what so ever.
You will cos somebody on here will come on and moan about it lol

Yes I am quite sure in this area. I was already a lorry driver at the time, and yes quite a few got licences which they weren’t entitled to.Some got class1 artic licences when they had only been driving a four wheeler and were only entitled too a class 3 licence under Grandfather rights. A lot of drivers couldn’t pass the medical for various reasons, such as diabetes and eyesight or heart problems. Others didn’t fancy moving onto bigger vehicles because of the weight increases. Wages in this are rose 50% and for a few years lorry drivers were earning decent money.
I’m seeing plenty full time jobs on offer around Newcastle, some not seen advertise before. Even saw Ramage advertising, not unusual I know but now they’ve upped the pay considerably, for them anyway. They will be struggling after the deadline. They organised DCPC training for their drivers on Saturdays, then charged them £47 per module to attend! My mate still works there & he reckons at least 8 will be finishing.
As for me I’ve been booked for another 4 weeks by the company I’m driving for, they even upped the rate without me asking. Dont tell me it won’t make a difference, it already is.

sorry m8 but what are you smoking dream on it aint happenin any time soon we would all be getting £15 an hour by now mabey even more 5 days to go ive had no sign’s yet
Nothing will happen any decent company will have everyone trained up well before deadline, there maybe be a rise in demand but i suspect this is more seasonal than because of dropouts.

It didn’t happen straight away in 1970, but within a couple of months when the shortage of drivers kicked in, even the tight buggers payed more money !!!
Im sorry but this is good for me lol. Ive just passed cpc and valid for 5 years. Hoping to get some of this work. Although I do think cpc is just the government getting more money off us drivers. Happy with a bit of guilt
I followed a CPC module last Saturday and the trainer said to us that he used to and still does runa some kind of agency. Anyway, he said that what the agencies will do if there’s any shortage of driver’s is venture over to Eastern Europe and recruit there as they and many British companies have already done in the past.

That’s already happening for 24.7 who are the agency for Halfords.
However Halfords themselves are looking for full time Class 1 drivers (on their website) as they are taking the transport back in-house this weekend from DHL.
Changes afoot !!
I’m sure most of the agencies already do post adverts all over Eastern Europe. I know Heads recruitment do. So don’t see it making much difference by an agency actually going over there unless there offering them digs/flight etc

If wages have to go up due to a lack of drivers then it would be cost-effective to offer various carrots to get drivers over to the UK in order to keep wages down. It’s the way capitalism works.
