churchyboy:
I recall as a kid back in the 70’s that the day cab Seddon Atkinson’s had a nifty cabbie bunk.
These bunks where fitted to Atkinsons borderers, before the amalgamation with Seddons, I believe I had one of the first made back in the ear4ly 70’s.
Dave Taylor of TTX as got one now painted in their colours.
I remember the first bunk I fitted to Volvo F86. The back of the passenger seat was folded forward then the back frame chopped down so a folding board could be fitted across cab width. I was really chuffed as it beat sleeping across the seats which involved having to pack everything away next morning. Monday morning set off to Birmingham area, that night I parked at a cafe opposite West Brom football ground. Next morning I found out the flaw to my design namely no curtains, across the low seats this had not been a problem. That morning I woke to find not only was I parked facing the road but a bus stop was smack in front of my cab, as I always sleep naked I was in a panic. Trying to get dressed in my sleeping bag without attracting any attention, inbetween buses coming and going, certainly got me sweating. My wife had me some curtains stiched up ready by I got home, some lengths of curtain wire fitted and I was ready for the road again.
