We’ve been told by the company we lease our lorries from that 7.5 tonners don’t legally need to have either working reverse lights or a reverse bleeper. Both are fitted and both stopped working on one of the new ‘12’ plate LF45’s.
Do you get a little book in the cab to show that you’ve done your walk around checks? Mark on it that you have found the reverse buzzer and/or the reverse lights not working and after the boss has signed off that it’s OK to use then keep a copy of that sheet for it you do get pulled over.
Also, is it possible to change the bulb? I have been yelled at once for changing the rear O/S indicator that wasn’t working. I was told by the TM that they could get someone in to do that and it works whenever it goes over a bump. Yeah right. Heard that one before mate, thanks for that.
Whether or not it is a legal requirement I for one wouldn’t want to be reversing in any urban area without the little white light at the back to INDICATE that I am reversing, and putting your hazards on isn’t always a good idea…
