Don’t understand why Tesco didn’t wait till after Christmas to put one up you, seems a bit strange to me, they dropped that ball there.
They’ve thrown the towel in we are all on gardening leave and paid up in lieu with an enhanced redundancy package

Are the drivers happy with the deal?

And long term what is the plan then ?
No ones ever happy to lose their job but a decent redundancy package is all we could get they had made their minds up they wanted rid of us and were going to use their"empty miles" to run Doncaster depot
Phantom Mark:
So at the end of all of this you basically have no job now, I understand why people are ■■■■■■ off and why they want to shout and scream but why have you guys now jeopardised any chance of a new job at Stobart ? A job is a job and I don’t think you will get the Rock & Roll if you are proven to turn down a job will you ? I get the battle but I don’t get the long term plan, all I see now is 180 angry stubborn jobless guys instead of 180 disgruntled fighting from the inside out guys.
Sorry Mark. With all due respect I don’t understand your post?
Are Stobarts the only haulage company out there and the only alternative is the dole?
I thought it was us that had been living in a bubble
Stobarts made it perfectly clear that they didn’t want us because they can run it with their existing fleet. That’s fair enough so your point is a bit inaccurate.
My point is very simple actually, in case you hadn’t noticed full time jobs are hard to come by at the moment, especially 180 of them all at once in one area, whether it is Stobarts or not you have ■■■■■■ away a full time job offer, that is the bit I don’t understand.

It has already been stated that the jobs they were offered were at the other end of the country and 60% of their wages that they were on. What use is that?
but the fact is stobart money aint ■■■■ so it seems that if your going to only get 60% of your pay that you used to get at tesco maybe its welcome to the real world sorry…

Maybe they, like me, enjoyed a decent hourly rate and could live off one weeks worth of hours instead of doing nearly two weeks worth of hours in one week like stobart drivers do for their none ■■■■ wages.
I really don’t pretend to know the fine print of any of these deals ex tesco drivers were offered so my comments are based purely on my understanding that the drivers were offered to carry on but on a standard Stobart contract.
I cannot think of a worse time of year for this crap, and whilst I feel there may have been a large degree of stubbornness the guys and their families have a level of sympathy now they have truly entered the one way street.
when i worked for a company who farmed their work out to a third party all personnel were offered either redundancy /transfer to the other company or early retirement so why hasnt STOBARTS i thought that was the law , or should be.
i forgot to mention that i worked for a decent firm who treated there drivers with respect ■■

My understanding was that you had to either keep your job or be given redundancy. But there is nothing to say that they have to give you a job at your existing base. The jobs offered could have been 30 at stoke 30 at crick 30 at widnes etc. not much use to guys living at Doncaster, and as you would be moving to a new job then new contract. Not 100% if the drivers had moved to Stobart already or were still tesco employees. I beloved they pulled the same trick with Fenny Lock. TUPE the drivers over, 90 days notice, depot closing you all have a job waiting at DIRFT on half the pay.
We were TUPED after 4 weeks they gave us 90 days notice they did offer us jobs in Widness crick avonmouth etc etc
The reality is ESL were given the contract by Tesco and didn’t want us there taking all units out of Doncaster and using what they call empty miles passing ESL vehicles
I don’t think any if us going to book the cruise we know its harsh out there
Most of us wanted to get new jobs sorted ASAP ( except the ones nearly retired) BUT and it’s a big BUT ESL wouldn’t give us a defiant finish date so we go to perspective employers saying we need a job but I’m not quite sure when
I was lucky I’ve sorted a new job to start in January but for lots of my mates it’s not going to be easy
