Anyone got any pictures of Harold Woods yard at Heckmondwike there`s industrial units on it now
Melton Engineering / Melton Tankers had one of the units I remember.
I found this on Francis Friths website
I am looking for info on what has happened to a very large firm I worked for decades ago now, namely Harold Wood & Sons Ltd, Wormald Street, Heckmondwyke. It was a very, very busy firm of bulk liquid haulage contractors. Having recently returned to my home town of Brighouse after over 30 years working and living in Cheshire I have been retracing my youth and when visiting Heckmondwyke I was surprised to find that people I talked to had no idea about Harold Wood’s at all. It was a huge firm and having visited the site the blue railings are still there but the Offices/Canteen/Huge Garage complex have been demolished and been replaced by other industrial buildings. I would love to hear from anyone who worked for HW’s or from anyone who can tell me what became of them. My time with them was in the very early 1960s and it was the firm that gave me the spur to my ultimate job for the rest of my life with ICI Mond Division (Chemicals).

Hi Chris, how did the TL12 compare to the ■■■■■■■ on reliability and pulling

The TL12 was faster and had bags more power.I had trouble with the brakes for a start but they were rectified. It wrecked a piston after about 100,000 miles which was a disappointment to say the least.I can’t recall any with the ■■■■■■■ having engine trouble though.Marathons have been criticised by some drivers but when you’d driven AEC MK3s,MK5s and Mandators and then into a Marathon it was like “heaven wi t’door shut” as they say in Sheffield The only other fault was that it wasn’t a sleeper but I made it habitable for cabbing like a lot of drivers used to improvise.
This is the only photo I’ve got, taken at Sheffield depot in 1977.

The 6 wheel Atki was a heavy Haulage unit based at Leeds and was Don’s wagon I am sure it was rated for around 35 ton payload it was replaced with a view line in the early 70s

The picture in the middle was taken at Kings Dock, Liverpool in May 2001. Tim O’Connor owned the wagon at that time and had it for sale at the Atkinson Rally which was being held there.
The picture at the bottom depicts the same wagon at Gaydon last year. It’s been restored in the interim period by the present owner, Keith Bradley from Formby. Bit of useless information - Keith used to deliver new Atkinson chassis for the factory, which used to be stored at Thos Guy’s premises on Burscough airfield.
